PERSONALS Bobbie Faris, 2121 N. Gerrard won an Easter Bunny Coloring contest sponsored by Star-News for children of employees. Bobbie’s prize was a $25 Savings Bond. Mrs. Don Vail of Big Rapids, Michigan and her two children, Hank who is two-and-a-half and Luanne who is six months, are Visiting with Mrs. Vail’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Rosner. Mr. Vail will join Jane and the children this week-end. ( j Dick Dikerson, 1850 Norfolk, a Purdue University student, underwent an emergency appendectomy Monday at the Home Hospital in Lafayette, Indiana. He is getting along fine.
Three students of Speedway were cited by Butler University during Honor Day for scholastic achievement during 1959-60. Donald Terry, son of Mr. and Mrs. Chester Terry, 1940 Cunningham, received the Department of Chemistry sophomore key award. Mr. Terry is a sophomore at Butler. Miss Joan Wilcox, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Doyle M. Wilcox, 2208 Fisher, was named to the University College Honor Roll and received a Lilly Endowment, Inc., Scholarship. Miss Wilcox is a sophomore at Butler. Miss Mary Finch, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John L. Finch, 1904 Winton Ave., was named to the University College Honor Roll. Miss Finch is a sophomore at Butler. The story of the healing of Naaman, the Leper, with Tom Nicholas as Naaman, Sharon Tiemeier as Sarah, the slave girl and Chris Olsen as Elisha, the prophet. “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs,” by the Ist and 2nd grade class. A modern version of the well known fairy tale. Anne Koehlinger portrays Snow White with Max Neiman as Prince Robin. Krannert Memorial Y.M.C.A. News School 78 Downs Ben Davis, Bridgeport and 61 A cheerleading contest was held at the new and beautiful Krannert YMCA on Friday, May 6, 1960. Schools 79 and Ben Davis were tied in the finals. The judges were in a quandry as to which school should win. It was finally decided on sportsmanship. It was noticed that school 61 had but a handful of supporters. The cheerleaders ’from 79 noticed this also and decided to root with 61, which of course exemplified excellent sportsmanship giving School 79 the winning edge!
AFNB News Roy C. Echols, president of the Indiana Bell Telephone Company, was elected to the board of directors of the American Fletcher National Bank and Trust Company, according to an announcement 'by Frank E. McKinney, AFNB chairman, and H. Prentice Browning, president. Mr. Echols became the sixth president of Indiana Bell on May 1, having returned to Indianapolis from New York City where he had been with AT&T since 1958. For almost four years prior to 1958 Mr. Echols had lived in Indianapolis while he served as Indiana Bell’s vice president and general manager. A native of Texas, Mr. Echols was born in Hubbard City, attended Southern Methodist University and launched his telephone career forty years ago at Dallas, Texas, as a part time clerk for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company.
