Tuesday, April 19th, in Fellowship Hall of the Speedway Christian Church. This was a “Thank You” from the committee to the many persons who have helped in so many ways to make the Speedway Booth at the Festival a success. Special guests included members of the Hoosier Capital Council of Girl Scouts, Festival Steering committee and Speedway Troop leaders and their co-lead-ers. Guests were greeted by members of Scout Troop 938 and were served by the Mother’s committee of Troop 450. Floral arrangements and table
decorations carried out the theme of the “500” along with Brownie and Girl Scout flags. A varied informal program opened with Scout songs, the Scout prayer and introductions of the guests. A special “Thank You” to Mrs. Marge Maple and her committee for their tireless efforts and a job well done. PERSONALS Last week in the Lyndhurst House Bowling tournament, Freddie Benedetto rolled games of 199, 186 and 155 for a series of 540 plus handicap. He was competing with 34 other bowlers to capture this thrilling event. Eleven Butler University students from Speedway appear on the dean’s list for the first semester of the 1959-60 school year. He will speak on the subject “The Rebirth Of A Community.” Fine Arts Festival The fifth annual Fine Arts Festival at Indiana Central College April 27-30 will include two continuous art exhibits, two nights of drama and one evening of music The programs will begin at 8:30 pan. The exhihits, the play and the concerts all are free. All but the art exhibits will be in the Academic Hall auditorium. The meeting is open to the public. Former Students Of Roberts School To Meet The first general meeting of former students of the James E. Roberts School for Physically Handicapped will be held Tuesday, April 26, at 7:30 p.m., in the school auditorium, 1401 East Tenth Street. Before 1936, the school was located at 612 West Washington Street, and was known as School 5 for Crippled Children. The Aims of the organization will be presented and discussed. A social hour will follow the brief business meeting. Concert at Butler The Butler University Little Symphony, Dr. Igor Buketoff conducting, will appear in concert at the World War Memorial at 3 p.m. Sunday, April 24. The program will begin with the familiar Overture to Prometheus, Op. 43 by Beethoven, followed by Arnold Schoenberg’s Chamber Symphony No. 2 Schoenberg is considered one of the most important and influential composers of this century. Sibelius’ Excerpts from Pelleas and Melisande, Op. 46, have been selected to conclude the program.
