This year’s convention will be held June 20-23.

SPEEDWAY CIVIL DEFENSE NEEDS ASSISTANCE NOW Speedway is not immune to disaster. During the past year at least one major industry and one home have been extensively damaged by explosion. The recent air tragedy here in Marion County could have easily been in Speedway. The recent floods and the Hendricks County tornadoes 10 years ago should be enough reminder but apparently not. During the past several weeks the Speedway Civil Defense has been conducting a basic course in rescue and first aid training as a prelude to more advanced training in Rescue and Traffic Control. All training books and equipment are furnished. April Ist a panel truck will be turned over to the Civil Defense from the water company and it will be converted into a light duty rescue truck similiar to trucks of Wayne township and Brownsburg. Most of the equipment including a complete communications system is already on hand. All this is useless without trained personnel to man this and other equipment. Persons untrained and volunteering after a disaster strikes are often times worse than useless. Most rescue work for instance is dangerous to all concerned unless a person is well trained. People who have concern for their neighbors and community should volunteer now. All that is asked is two nights per month, 2 hours per night with everything furnished and designed to be as interesting and educational as possible. Next meeting night is Wednesday, March 30, 7:00 p.m. at Speedway Town Hall. Why not at least sit in for one meeting?
