Indiana Bell News Indiana Bell has started two major equipment installation projects to better serve telephone users in the Indianapolis area. A completely new dial switching system is being installed in the AXminster building recently completed at 5230 Moeller Road, and switching equipment in the FLeetwood building at 5747 East Washington is being expanded. G. P. (Pat) Littell, Indianapolis division manager for the telephone company, said both installation jobs are scheduled for completion in August. Total cost will be almost $1,700,000. The AXminster equipment will serve about 9,000 customers in northwestern Indianapolis. This will include all of today’s TRinity phones, CHapel phones in an area generally north of 25th Street and a few Clifford phones.

Activation of the AXminster equipment this summer will mark the completion of one of the largest single projects in company history. More than 66,400 miles of new telephone lines are being placed in the area to connect phones to the new dial system. Littell said the additional equipment in the FLeetwood office will provide 1,000 more telephone numbers. Combined with outside lines, the equipment will serve new telephone users and present ones who want better grades of service. Power equipment in the FLeetwood building will be replaced by a larger unit, also to keep pace with telephone growth in the eastern part of the city. Consider every yellow school bus as a moving caution sign, says the Indiana Traffic Safety Foundation. Motorists must stop when the school bus stops.
