- TOWN NOTICE (Continued from Page 1) vidual for a certain number of days, weeks, months or years. A rezoning of land use is to the property and remains with the property regardless of change of ownership. All violation of zoning laws shall be enforced by the Metropolitan Planning Department. Powers to annex is also a complicated procedure. In the case of the Town of Speedway desiring to annex abutting land outside the corporate limits of the town, it is necessary to have the consent of the Indianapolis City Council. Due to the recent annexation proposals of the City of Indianapolis it seems that Speedway is in for trouble in extending boundary lines. Improvements have been made to the building which houses stray dogs, they will now be comfortable and well fed during thenstay as guests of the town. k Representatives from the State Board of Health met with your Town Board February 29th to discuss increased water supply and purification. Mr. John Fidger, -chairman of the Town Board and member of the Indianapolis Flood Control Commission, made a report on findings of the Commissions study to date, relative to flood control in Big Eagle Creek Valley. Things are looking more promising in the valley. Printed information on Radioactive Fallout is available at the Town Hall. We advise you to stop and pick up some of these pamphlets. With the knowledge gained from these pamphlets you may be able to save the lives of your family in case of extreme fallout. If you don’t know, they may be killed. Support your local Civilian Defense Organization. Some interesting highlights taken from the 1959 Public Service Report reveals that the total assets of the Water Works is sl,212,927.91. There are 3012 commercial water customers, 5 industrial users, 265 fire hydrants, 6 wells with a total capacity per 24 hour day of 3,405,600. There are 30 miles, 3933 feet of water mains. The total amount of water pumpk gallons. Rocky Ripple has the highest rate The minimum per day pumpage was 553,000 gallons on Sunday, February Bth. The maximum was 2,096,800 on May 26th. The water pressure in the mains ranges from 40 to 60 pounds depending on the distance from the storage tank. The water temperature is 55 degrees. Total operating expense was $67,908.44, and it cost .152946 cents to pump each 1000 gallon.
Another interesting statistic is the tax breakdown for the year 1959 payable in 1960. Total tax rate is $6,171 on each SIOO.OO of assessed property. Of this amount .01 cent goes to the State of Indiana, $1,583 goes to Marion County, $3,527 goes to Wayne Township and Speedway Schools and $1,051 goes to the Town of Speedway. In these days of foreign aid and political prosperity, your reporter was surprised to find that .4671 cents of the total $6,171 is spent for Welfare and poor relief, .1581 cents goes to the County Welfare Fund and .309 cents goes to the Township Relief Fund. There are twenty-two Towns and Cities in Marion County excluding Indianapolis. Most of them must depend on the City of Indianapolis and Marion County for necessary services. The Town of Warren Park has the lowest tax rate with $5.68, Speedway is second lowest. Ricky Ripple has the highest rate with $8.75. For comparative purposes, Beech Grove rate is $7,553 and Lawrence is $7,512 all well above the $6,171 rate at Speedway, goes to prove that Speedway is still a mighty good place to live. From my clippings: The world in which a man lives shapes itself chiefly by the way he looks at it.
