Youth Week Youth Week in 1960 will be observed by many local churches Jan. 31-Feb. 7. The emphasis is on Christian Citizenship with the theme “Thy Kingdom . . . On Earth.” On Sunday, Feb. 7 at 2:30 p.m., the Youth Mass Meeting sponsored by the Youth Fellowships through the Church Federation of Greater Indianapolis will be held at the Roberts Park Methodist Church, 401 N. Delaware St. The mass meeting is for all young people, adult advisors to youth, ministers, directors and ministers of Christian education, and others who are interested in young people. The program will begin at 2:30 pun., with Christian Citizenship Seminars followed by an inspirational service of worship. The Rhythmic Choir from the First Congregational Christian Church will lead the group into worship experiences with hymns “Spirit of the Living God” and “The Lord’s Prayer.” Miss Betty Woodbridge is the director. The two projects being sponsored by the Indianapolis Christian Youth Council during Youth Week are “Share Our Surplus” and “Clothing for Teens.” A money offering will go to the “Share Our Surplus” program. Items of clothing will be collected for the “Clothing for Teens” relief project. They will be received at the Youth Mass Meeting, Sunday, Feb. 7, at the Roberts Park Methodist Church.
“Share our Surplus” is a program administered through Church World Service whereby surplus foods are released to the world’s hungry peoples. Each dollar will send 300 to 400 pounds of food in bulk. Five dollars will feed cereal to 500 people for three weeks. Ten dollars will give 400 people bread for two months. The clothing, which is to be neatly folded in boxes, will be sent to Church World Service to clothe teens in other lands. The “Clothing for Teens” program needs warm sturdy clothing of all types in teen sizes for both boys and girls.
Registration For Spring Semester At I.U. Downtown Center Registration for the spring semester of the Indiana University Downtown Center in Indianapolis will begin Thursday, Feb. 4, and continue through Saturday, with classes starting Monday, Feb. 8. In announcing the spring semester program, Virgil Hunt, director, urged students to register during the designated period and not at the first class meeting. Hunt said this is important as some of the classes will be filled prior to the first meeting. The current semester, which has an enrollment of 3494 students, will end Jan. 29. Final examinations will begin Jan. 25.
Students graduating from high school this semester and also those posting in high school may begin their university programs at the LU. Center now as many first semester courses will be offered during the spring semester. Students many consult now with Rufus Reiberg, academic counselor, and Betty June Williams, assistant counselor, with regard to their programs for the coming semester. The counselors are available at the center headquarters, 518 N. Delaware.
In order to meet the needs of students, several new courses will be offered for the first time next semester, Hunt said. Of special interest to teachers in this area will be courses scheduled to give graduate credit. In addition to' its curriculum of some 150 credit courses, the I.U. Center next semester will offer a comprehensive program of special adult education noncredit courses which will be open to the general public. Director Hunt has pointed out that the first two years of the requirements for a bachelors degree may be taken at the Indianapolis Center. There will be classes in anthropology, astronomy, business, chemistry economics, education, English, fine arts, French, geography, German, government, health and recreation, history, home economics, journalism, mathematics, music, philosophy, police administration, psychology, religion, Russian, sociology, Spanish, speech and theatre, and zoology.

Electric Living Displayed At Home Show Because of its complete utilization of every feature required for total electric living, the 1960 display house at the Indianapolis Home Show has been awarded the Gold Medallion for electrical excellence, it was announced this week by W. T. Richards, vice-president in charge of sales of Indianapolis Power & Light Company. An actual metal replica of the medallion was presented by Mr. Richards to Robert Dawson of Dawson Brothers Construction Company, who are building the display house in the Manufacturers building at the fairgrounds, where the Home Show will open Feb. 5. The medallion will be affixed to the completed home. The total-electric features which earned the Gold Medallion award include electric baseboard heating, all-electric kitchen and laundry, “light-for-living” fixtures and lamps and “Housepower” wiring to provide con-veniently-located circuits and outlets for lighting and appliances. Art Linkletter Named National Heart Sunday Chairman Art Linkletter, widely known television personality and master of ceremonies of the television program, “House Party,” has been named National Heart Sunday Chairman of the 1960 Heart Fund campaign, it was announced today

by Sylvester L. Weaver, Jr., Chairman of the Board of the American Heart Association. Mr. Linkletter will head some 1,500,000 Heart volunteers in their na-tion-wide residential collection for the Heart Fund on February 28. Mr. Weaver said arrangements have been completed for the February 1 “House Party” show to originate at a Heart Fund campaign kickoff luncheon of the Los Angeles County Heart Association at the Biltmore Hotel in Los Angeles, with more than 1300 volunteers attending. The program will be heard over the CBS-TV network on February 1 from 2:30 to 3 p.m., EST.
Among those appearing on the program will be Dr. A. Carlton Emstene of Cleveland, President of the American Heart Association, Eddie Cantor, Ann Blyth and others active in the Heart Fund cause. Mr. Linkletter, now starting his 26th year in show business, is a long-time member of the Board of Directors of the Los Angeles County Heart Association.
