Woman's Auxiliary Sahara Grotto Mrs. Jennie Lucas, president of the Women’s Auxiliary of Sahara Grotto will be hostess to 20 new members at the annual Membership Dinner at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, November 10, at the Grotto Club House, 4107 East Washington Street. The dinner will be prepared and served by the Membership Committee, Mrs. Mary Rosenberg, chairman. Following the dinner, Mrs. Harry Newport and the entertainment committee will initiate the new members. ITOPS State Conclave The Indiana section of ITOPS (Independent Telephone Operators Personality Service) will hold their State Conclave, November 7, 1959, at the Severin Hotel. Registration will start at 9 a.m. thru 10:30 a.m. at which time a business meeting will start. There will be a cocktail hour from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

Spanners Car Club The Spanners Auto Club is now taking applications for membership. The Spanners is now 5 weeks old. We have 2 club projects. One is a 1930 Buick roadster that we plan to make into a show car. We have also a 1930 frame and a “32” Ford roadster body, 1953 V-8 Stud, engine. We are planning to join the National Hot Rod Assn, within two weeks. We would like to have visitors at our meetings on Monday night at 7:30 to 9:45. Meetings are held at Ralph Downs, Jr.’s home, 5120 Crawfordsville Rd. CH. 1-0324. We now have 17 members and would like to have more. Anybody interested in Auto Safety, come over Monday night, November 9th. Messiah Rehearsals Start Next Sunday First Messiah Rehearsals will be next Sunday, November 8 from 3:30 to 5:00 p.m. at the Speedway Methodist Church. All Speedway and Westside singers are urged to attend this first rehearsal. All those interested in trying out for solo work, please contact the director, Mrs. Robert Borst, CH. 41725. Diabetes Detection Drug stores in all neighborhoods of Indianapolis and Marion county again will cooperate with the Indianapolis Diabetes Association during Diabetes Detection Week Nov. 15 through 21. The association announced at its headquarters, 821 Hume Mansure Bldg., that paper Dreypak strips for a simple test at home and information about diabetes will be available free at the drug stores. All a person need do is ask for the detection week material. After making the urine test at home, the Dreypak strip is mailed in the envelope furnished to the diabetes headquarters. An analysis will be made and anyone showing signs of the ailment will be notified. His physician also will be alerted. Industrial Nurses The Mid-Indiana Industrial Nurses Association, Inc., will hold an Open Meeting, Friday, November 13, 1959, 7 p.m. at Cummins Engine Company, Columbus, Indiana. R. E. Walters, M.D., Medical Director, Cummins Engine Company will be the principal speaker. Dinner will be served in the plant cafeteria.

Preparation For Christian Marriage In order to help engaged couples and newlyweds find the joy in marriage which they seek, a program known as “Preparation for Christian Marriage” has been set up by the Church Federation of Greater Indianapolis. The next session will be held from 3:00 to 5:30 on Sunday afternoon, November Bth, at the Central Christian Church, 701 Ft. Wayne Avenue (corner of North Delaware Street) in Indianapolis. Two motion pictures, “Human Reproduction” and “Marriage Is a Partnership,” are the basis of the topics covered in these programs. Registrations from engaged couples and newlyweds are invited from couples outside as well as inside of the Indianapolis area. Reservations should be made through the Church Federation office, 310 North Illinois Street, Indianapolis, ME. 5-9506. There is a fee of $2.00 per couple. Butler-DePauw Football Game Butler University and DePauw University will renew their football rivalry for the 39th time Saturday (Nov. 7) when they squareoff at 1 p.m. (CDT) in the Butler Bowl. Tickets for the game will be on sale at Butler Bowl, beginning at 11:45 a.m. (CDT) Saturday. Prices are $1.25 for adults and 50 cents for children. Indianapolis Christian Youth Council There will be an all-day Planning Session of the Youth Fellowship groups who work through the Indianapolis Christian Youth Council, Church Federation of Greater Indianapolis on Saturday, November 7 at the Southside YMCA, 1941 E. Hanna Avenue. This meeting will open at 9:30 a.m. with registration and fellowship, after which the worship will be led by the officers. This meeting is for high school young people and adult advisors who represent the local churches of the city, the denominations, regional youth councils, and other youth agencies who will be planning the cooperative work for the youth fellowships in Greater Indianapolis. Bell Telephone Hour A musical salute to Veterans Day and a tribute to composer Irving Berlin will be featured on the next Bell Telephone Hour. The hour-long live colorcast with Burgess Meredith as host and narrator will be shown Friday, November 6, over NBC television. Singers on the program will be John Raitt, Jaye P. Morgan, Johnny Desmond and the Four Lads. Lorin Hollander, a 14-year-old prodigy, will be piano soloist, and the United States Coast Guard Academy choir will join in the salute to veterans. Dial, chairman and chief executive officer, announced. Sales for the ninemonth period were $1,120,986,000, 21 per cent above sales of $929,764,000 in the first nine months of 1958, and 7 per cent above sales of $1,045,939,000 for the comparable period of 1957, the previous record. Net income amounted to $126,999,000, or $4.22 per share, an increase of 50 per cent over the $2.81 per share earned in the first nine months of 1958 and an increase of 23 per cent over the $3.44 per share earned in the first nine months of 1957. RwOWil The promotion of Robert E Dahl of Lawrence, Ind., to the position of associate director of the Indiana Association for Mental Health was announced by Joseph R. Brown, executive director. Mr. Dahl has been central regional director of the association since 1958. He succeeds Marion Craney who recently resigned $o accept a position as executive director of the Kansu Association for Mental Health.
