Fine blocking by the Cardinal left linemen, John Sullivan, Paul Shinkle and Bud Collier gave Carter plenty of open field. Tom Jacobs scored the extra point on a line plunge. In the first play of the second half, Bill Layne charged into the Packer backfield and recovered a fumble. Three plays later Brad Block at quarterback -took the handoff from fullback Tom Jacobs and scampered around right end for a 43 yard touchdown. Jacobs again scored the extra point. Outstanding defensive play of the game was turned in by right guard Jim Geiman who knifed through the line and caught a Packer halfback from behind on what would have been a long gain around left end. Guy Roush and Bill Layne, cocaptains for the Cardinal eleven led their team to a hard fought 13 to 6 victory over the Bears last Saturday afternoon. Darrell Raines scored on a 12 yard dash around right end to complete a 53 yard drive by the Cardinals in the first quarter. Tom Jacobs scored the extra point on a line plunge. The Bears opened the second quarter with a 49 yard touchdown run by Bobby Kuykendall. The point after was broken up when Paul Shinkle, Cardinal line backed, charged in causing the Bear quarterback to fumble. Ricky Rost made a 28 yard run back of the Bear kickoff. Two successive first downs by Daune Carter set up the second Cardinal touchdown made by Darrell Raines on a 20 yard scamper around right end. Jacobs was stopped short of the extra point. The entire second half was a see-saw game with fine defensive play by both teams. Bear pitchouts failed to materialize only because of the fine defensive play on the part of Cardinal right linemen, Jim Geiman, Ricky Rost and Ricky Glidwell. Top defensive honors go to Cardinal line backer, Paul Shinkle for his fast
