Westlake Girl Scout Troop 558 Troop 558 will have a hike at Camp Dellwood, Saturday, October 17th from 10 to 2. Each Scout please bring your own food to cook. Mrs. Tewell, leader. Junior Sparkplugs Sting Hornets 8-0 The Speedway Jr. Sparkplugs closed their home season last Thursday evening with an 8-0 victory over visiting Beech Grove. There was no scoring in the first period although the Plugs controlled the pigskin most of the time due to an alert, spirited, hard charging line. In the second quarter, left end Fred Zornigor caught a slide out pass from QB Glen Curtis and scampered 45 yards for a touchdown, only to have it called back for an off sides penalty. A few plays later Zornigor scampered 10 yards into the end zone on an end around play. The extra point was no good and the half ended with Speedway in front 6-0. Both teams were scoreless in the 3rd stanza as in the first, as the Plugs once more scored a (Continued on page 7)

Westwood Country Club The 7th and Bth Grade Halloween Party will be held Saturday, October 17th, from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. This will be a “Hobo” Party, so everyone come dressed as hobo’s. Prizes will be awarded to the best dressed hobo. Max Forsyth will be the caller for the Square dance Sunday night, October 18th. Riviera Club Boosters The Riviera Club Boosters will have their Dinner-Dance and Installation of officers Friday evening. Those being installed will be Mr. and Mrs. David W. Stilley, president; Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Brand, vice president; Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Dewaid, secretary; Mr. and Mrs. George Terfler; and Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Rabe, Sgt. at Arms. The past presidents will be honored as this will be the 25th Anniversary of the Club Boosters. Pink and Silver Colors will prevail in the decorations. Entertainment will be furnished by the “Keynotes.” A quartet of students of Speedway High School will sing and music for the dance will be furnished by Nick Craig and his orchestra. Men's Party The Holy Name Society of St. Joseph’s Church is sponsoring a Men’s Social on Friday, October 16th, in the school hall, 1401 S. Mickley Avenue. Mr. Paul Harrold and Mr. Joe Kelly, the chairmen, would like to invite everyone to attend this evening of pleasant entertainment they have planned. Lions Club Halloween Party The Speedway Lions Club will sponsor the Annual Halloween Party October 31st at 7:00 p.m. at the High School Gym. Judging of costumes will be from 7:00 to 7:20. Speedway Little League Football Cardinal captains, John Sullivan and Ricky Glidwell led their team to a 14 to 0 victory over a tough Packer team in a makeup game last Saturday evening. Local Psi Otes Attend Province Meeting Mrs. T. A. Hanna and Mrs. George A. Jacks of the Gamma Theta Chapter of Psi lota Xi sorority were delegates to the sorority’s Central Province meeting at Frankfort, Saturday. The meeting was held at the Frankfort Elks Club, with Kenneth Powers, mayor of Frankfort, welcoming the group. During the morning session, members of National Council briefly explained their duties to the group. Mary Trainor, staff member of the New Castle State Hospital spoke on mental health and described her work at the hospital. Card of Thanks I wish to thank our neighbors and friends for the flowers, sympathy and many kindnesses extended to me and my family at the death of my husband, William F. The most unusual Election in the history of our country began on October Ist. The vote doesn’t involve a single campaign speech or promise, and the candidates are all flowers. In a unique national vote, local residents will be able to cast their ballot any time during the month of October with any of the above Westside Florists in the National Flower Election designed to help Congress select an American floral emblem. The Election being conducted by the members of Florists’ TeleSpaghetti Supper There will be a Spaghetti Supper and Bazaar Saturday, October 17th, sponsored by the North Park Chapter, Order of Eastern Star at the Masonic Temple, 5555 N. Notice to Speedway Water Works Customers Friday, October 16, Fire Hydrants will be flushed in Speedway Manor Subdivision. All streets from 21st to 25th and Lyndhurst Drive East to and including Auburn Street. Work will be completed by 6:00 p.m. Saturday, October 17, Fire Hydrants will be flushed in Oak Lawn Subdivision, 23rd Street to 25th Street, Auburn to Georgetown Road and Georgetown Road from 16th Street North to 25th Street. The affected area will include that portion of Speedway Manor lying North of Dry Run Drain Ditch. Water will be roilled with little or no pressure during flushing operations. Westlake P.T.O. The Westlake Parent-Teacher Organization will meet Thursday night, Oct. 15th at 7:30 p.m. Rev. Miles DePagter, Metropolitan Program Director for the U.M.C.A., will speak. His topic being “Get In Close.” There will be facilities to care for young children who accompany their parents. A social hour will follow the meeting. Lioness Club News The October meeting of the Speedway Lioness Club will be Monday evening, October 19 at 6:30 in the Speedway Christian Church. This is the annual pitchin dinner meeting for the husbands. The speaker will be Mr. Irving Leibowitz, assistant Managing Editor of the Indianapolis Times. NANETTE FIGER In Annie Oakley Role Nanette Fidger, graduate of Speedway High School will play the leading role of Annie Oakley, sharpshooting competitor of Frank Butler, played by David Haine. Opening tonight, the production will run through Sunday at the Zaring Theatre, Fall Creek Boulevard at Central. Other Speedway students appearing in the production are Shelia Gradison and Johnny Bullington. Many Speedway residents are attending and tickets are still available at the box office. See you there!
