Model "A" Display “Invaders from the north will descend upon Indianapolis Sunday, August 16th, but citizens will likely be more interested than frightened. The “invaders” will be members of the White River Valley Chapter of the Model A Restorers Club, and they’ll come in antique Fords instead of rocket ships. Once iin Indianapolis the club members will go to Brookside Park where they will meet with the newly formed Capitol City Chapter of MARC. They will arrive at the park at 12 noon for a pitch-in-dinner to be held just east of the community house. ington Street, east on Washington to Sherman Drive, north on Sherman to the park. Acting president of the newly formed Capitol City Chapter is Benjamin F. Yeager, Jr., of 433 North Oakland. Yeager stressed that the Meet yill be open to all Model A fans whether they do or do not own a car. Persons interested in joining the club may contact him personally before the Meet or see him at the park. The Model A Restorers Club is an international organization founded in 1952. Actually the club is more like a cult with members going through strange forms such as trading parts, holding idling contests, tinkering with motors, and slavishly wiping every speck of dust off their cherished vehicles. Model A’s were manufactured between the years 1928 and 1931 and are known for their stout hearts. Recently a member’s car ticked off its 300,000 mile even though the AAA estimated life of a ’29 car was 32,000 miles. Only last May a trio of South Americans arrived at the Henry Ford Museum in Dearborn, Michigan, after making a 7,000 mile trip from Cartegena, Columbia, in a 1928 Model A touring car. The adventurous young men carried 14-inch machetes to keep tigers at bay while traveling the jungle roads of Costa Rica, but their only other difficulties were four blowouts and two broken axles caused by rough roads. They averaged 125 miles a day. Polio "Dollar Clinic" Nearly 8000 Salk vaccine shots have been administered to children and adults in Indianapolis so far in the polio “Dollar Clinic” program sponsored by the Marion County Chapter of the National Foundation.
