Masses at 6:15 and at 8 o’clock in the morning and again at 8 o’clock in the evening. Each and every one of us should make it a must to attend Mass and receive Holy Communion tomorrow for the Sacred Heart of Jesus who loves us all so very much. With the added extra evening Mass, Father Lindemann provides every opportunity for us to avail ourselves of this added grace. * Saturday if First Saturday. Members of the Altar Society will receive corporate Holy Communion Sunday at the eight o’clock Mass. All ladies who are members of St. Chrihtopher are members of the Altar Society whether active or inactive. Mrs. William Yoder, new Society president, will l»ad the short prayers after the Mass offered for the intentions of the Holy Father and the deceased members. Members of the eighth grade graduating class will be formally received into the Junior C.Y.O. Sunday evening at 6 o’clock in the church. Parents of these boys and girls will be received into the Parent-Sponsor Group at the same time. BETROTHED Announcement of the engagement and approaching marriage of Miss Lillian Grace Malouf, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. S. D. Malouf, Peru, Indiana, and Julian Richard Livingston, is made by the parents of the bride-elect. Mr. and Mrs. Clifford A. Livingston, 5013 W. 14th St., Speedway, are the parents of Mr. Livingston. He is a graduate of Indiana University, Bloomington. At present Mr. Livingston is attending Purdue University, Lafayette, where he is working on his degree in electrical engineering and will complete that course in January of 1960. He is a member of Phi Eta Sigma, a scholastic honorary, and two engineering honoraries. Tau Beta Pi and Eta Kappa Nu. Miss Malouf is a graduate of Indiana University and its School of Music. While there she studied with Ozan Marsh who was affiliated with the University. She is now studying in Chicago with Rudolph Ganz. Her sorority is Sigma Alpha lota, a national music honorary. Plans are being made for an August wedding.
PERSONALS , Miss Patricia Ann Last, 2133 Gerrard, Speedway, has been appointed an associate editor on the Indiana Daily Student, campus newspaper at Indiana University, for the first eight weeks of the fall semester. A sophomore, Miss Last, is majoring in journalism and is the recipient of the recent Theta Sigma Phi scholarship. Larry Thomas, son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert L. Thomas, will be graduated from DePauw University with High Distinction, Sunday, June 7th. He was recently initiated into Phi Beta Kappa, National Scholastic Honorary, and has been granted a fellowship to the University of Illinois where he will begin graduate work next fall. Speedway Indians Win TFiree In A Row Within the past week the Indians have beaten Douglas Park 5-4, the Westlake Eagles 6-0 and Flanner House All Stars 8-4. Mathews, Haettinger and Benedetto collaborated in pitching with Crandall and Whitmore catching. The team as a whole played heads up ball. The coaches consist of George Haettinger, Herb Robbins, Charles Urban and Leonard Benedetto. The team will open their regular season next Tuesday playing in the National Traveling League sponsored by the Y.M.C.A. Card of Thanks Words can hardly express our gratitude to all who offered help and extended sympathy during the recent loss of our mother. YOUR PLAY GROUND NEWS The Speedway Park Board wishes to announce that the lights for the tennis courts, the horseshoe pits, and the general playground area are now on during the evening until 10:00. Playing time for the use of the tennis courts in the evening hours may be secured by following the instructions given in the Rules and regulations in next week’s paper. All who plan to use Park and recreation areas during the summer months should read these rules carefully; we have had many violations of these rules and since they are designed to insure safety, fines may have to be assessed to protect the rights of all persons. These are some of the major infractions: 1. The riding of bicycles in the parks and across school grounds and baseball diamonds is expressly prohibited. Speedway O.E.S. The Speedway Chapter No. 561 O.E.S. will hold a stated meeting Tuesday evening, June 9 at the Masonic Temple, 1620 N. Lyndhurst at 8:00 p.m. Dorothy Troutman, Worthy Matron, announces that the meeting will honor fathers in our chapter and everywhere. There will be trials for non-payment of dues at 7:15. Inspection will be at Corinthian on June 17th.
Westwood Country Club The Westwood Country Club Pool opened Friday, May 29, for the Memorial Day week-end. The attendance doubled each day as the members enjoyed the warmest water the pool has ever had, a refreshing 78 degrees. There will be approximately 100 new memberships available this year and if anyone is interested in joining we urge them to make their application as quickly as possible as this limited number of memberships will not last long. The Pool opens Saturday, June 6, for the season. The 6th Grade Party will be held Friday night, June 5, from 7:30 till 9:30 in the Club Ballroom. Mrs. Thompson, Chairman, has announced that there will be movies and games. On Saturday, June 6, Gabe Owens will call the steps for a series of square dances that will start at 8:00 p.m. At 10:00 p.m. the group will go to the pool for a “Splash Party.’” On Wednesday, June 10, the High School Teens will dance to the music of Dave Thompson’s “Rythm Rockers.” Dancing starts at 8:00 and is over at 10:00, the new hours for the summer season. On June 24th, a “Splash Party” is scheduled for the teen-agers.
Swimming lessons start Monday, June 8. There are still openings in each age group so if you haven’t registered do so by Monday.

June 9, Final Report Cards issued at 10:00 a.m. Next week in the Flyer, under recreation news, the park and playground rules are listed. In the interest of safety and to eliminate undue noise in residential areas all persons are asked to refrain from playing golf, flying model airplanes, and running en-gine-powered vehicles on all school playgrounds and asphalt parking lots. In addition to the seniors listed in last week’s Flyer two other former students, Reta Jane Stout and Annette Marie Jolliff, received diplomas by completing high school work by correspondence or evening school. In last week’s Flyer a number of scholastic awards announced at the Honor Day Program were listed. The remainder of the awards and honors are listed this week. Special music awards were: John Phillip Sousa Band Award, Bill Hackett; Special Choral Award, Karen Brown; Band Director’s Awards, Paula Winterfeldt and Jim McClamroch; Choral Director’s Awards, Sharon Tarplee and Jim McMahon; and Student Manager Award, Ronnie Lambert.
Other special awards: Junior Classical League, Jeanette Potter; Psi lota Xi Scholarship, Sue Todd; Kappa Kappa Kappa Scholarship, Janice Gale; F. 8.L.A., Linda Swails; D.A.R., Janice Gale; Betty Crocker Homemaking Award, Judy Sellers; Lions Club Personality Award, Bart Updike; Poetry Award, Kate Lampman; Junior High Sportsmanship, Jack Troth; Varisty Track Improvement, Dean Hubbard; Journalism, Donna Wright and Jim McMahon. Several college scholarships were announced. Others may come later. Those announced were: Karen Brown to Cincinnati Conservatory of Music ($250 annually); Jim Burkhart and Janice Gale to Butler University (one-half tuition fees each semester); Eugene Enlow to Purdue University ($112.50 per semester); Bill Hackett to Wabash College ($750 annually) and Massachusetts Institute of Technology ($1350 annually); Jerry Pollitt from Weyerhaeuser Timber Company to college of his choice (SI6OO annually); Ed Skeeters to Wabash College (SSOO annually). National Merit Certificates were presented to Dick Dickerson, John Meier, Bill Hackett, and Bart Updike. Student Council membership awards were: President’s Pin, Bill Williams; three year pins, Dean Hubbard, Sandy Huffman, Janet McClelland, and Jeanie Piper. Girls’ and Boys’ State awards were made to Karen Ewing, Janie Hardin, Judy Kirchhoff, Dixie White, Frank Frosch, and Bob Leonard. Degeners To Celebrate 50th Wedding Anniversary Mr. and Mrs. William Degener will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary Sunday, June 7th at an Open House for friends and relatives at the Speedway Christian Church from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. The day will be concluded with a family buffet supper at their home, 1641 Winton Avenue. They were married June 2nd, 1909, and have lived in Speedway 32 years. Mr. and Mrs. Degener have one son and two daughters, Karl F. Degener and Mrs. Earle Treadway of Speedway and Mrs. Carl Lines of Indianapolis; 5 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.

LIONS CLUB FISH FRY TOMORROW AND SATURDAY The Speedway Lions Club will fry fish and offer a wide variety of home-cooked food tomorrow and Saturday evenings in the lot near the corner of Lyndhurst and 16th Street. (See the menu at the top center of this page). All net receipts from the Fish Fry, the Christmas Tree Sale, the Pancake Day, -and this - year’s carnival must be put back into the community. This Fish Fry is one of our principal money making projects for the many activities that we support. During 1958 these were some of the groups to which the Speedway Lions Club transferred the money you gave us to spend: the Halloween Party, the Football and Basketball Banquets, the Muscatatuck School, the Noble School, Little League Football, the Speedway Baseball Association, Leader Dog League, Cancer Control, the Community Christmas Party, Larue Carter Hospital Party, and the Indiana Astronomical Society. We want to thank all of you who will be helping us by contributing pies and cakes and coming to eat with us Friday and Saturday evenings. Notice To Speedway Residents The local Order of Demolay, as a civic project, will spray garbage cans with insecticide on Monday and Tuesday, June 15 and 16th. This is the same type of program that the Indianapolis Star has sponsored for the City of Indianapolis in recent years. The insecticide will not be injurious to pets. The Demolay asks that those people who wash their garbage cans periodically please wash the cans prior to these dates in order that this soluble chemical might have a chance to attain its full effect. 25th Anniversary Open House Friends and relatives are invited to attend open house honoring the 25th Wedding Anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Strouse at 1718 Ellen Drive, Speedway, Sunday, June 7th. NOTICE The Speedway Church of the Nazarene, located at 5020 Crawfordsville Rd. will begin their daily vacation Bible School June the 15th and will continue through the 26th. The School will be under the supervision of Mrs. Elcie Price. Mrs. Price has had a wide experience in dealing with children and youth groups across the country. Speedway Hobby And Homemakers The Speedway Hobby and Homemakers Club will meet at the home of Mary Graesch Thursday, June 11th; at 10:30 a.m. for coffee before going to the Shrimp House for dinner at 12:30 p.m. Amy Covell will be assistant hostess. If you cannot attend please notify one of the hostesses. The business meeting will be held after the luncheon and the program following will be in charge of Dorcas Johnson and Leia Fletcher. We would like to thank Mrs. Una Douglas of the Douglas Flower Shop for a most delightful demonstration in flower making last month at the home of Margaret Emmick. Senior Parents Notice Pictures of the 1959 Seniors used at the Senior Breakfast may be picked up at 5040 West 15th Street. Junior Hi C.Y.F. Retreat Next Sunday all Junior Hi C.Y.F.ers planning to go to McCormick’s Creek for the Retreat, will leave the church at 8:00 a.m. Everyone should bring sandwiches for the noon meal. In addition, girls should bring either baked beans, potato salad, cake or cookies; boys bring a carton of soft drinks. The Recreation Committee asks that anyone having baseball or playground equipment, bring it along.
