PERSONALS Mr. and Mrs. John Lemmon of Akron, Ohio, announce the birth of a son, John Mark, March 30th. Grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Louis J. Smith, 1715 Allison and Mr. and Mrs. John Lemmon, Sr., of Indianapolis. Charles Robert Templin, son of Mr. and Mrs. Cornelius C. Templin, 1730 Allison, was recently initiated into the Wabash College chapter of Delta Tau Delta, national social fraternity. Templin is-a freshman at Wabash and a graduate of Speedway High School. Among the top women journalists at I. U. is Patricia A. Last, 2133 Gerrard, who won the $l5O Theta Sigma Phi scholarship at the annual Matrix Table Banquet at Indiana University. Syndicated columnist, Ann Landers, was the main speaker for the 50th anniversary event. Nearly 500 campus coeds and Bloomington women attended the dinner.

Mrs. Samuel Park, 5571 Broadmoor Plaza, entertained last Sunday afternoon with a bridal shower for Miss Margie Wright. Miss Wright is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Homer Wright, 1519 S. High School Rd. and is to be married Saturday, April 11th, to Mr. Fred Amich, son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Amich, 5031 W. 14th Street. Co-hostesses for the shower were Mrs. Omer Lambert and Mrs. Fred Wenning. The color theme was carried out in the bride’s colors of shrimp, turquoise and yellow. Miss Wright was assisted by Miss Margaret Park and Miss Carol Wenning. The refreshments include beautifully decorated individual cakes made by Mrs. Opal Swenson.

Those in attendance including the bride were: Mesdames Homer Wright, Frank Amich, Jack Kendall, Lew Schenck, Winfield Wood, James Boswell, Renfro Lawson, Samuel Myers, Richard Jordan, Robert Ryan, Carl Wehling, William Wing, Robert Nilson, Tom Wilson, Lester Tower, Charles Halbert, and the Misses Hazel Smith, Geneva Walters, Judy Kendall, Margi Kendall, Janine Jordan, Carol Wenning, Nancy Amich, Margaret Park, Luanne Tower, Diane Tower and Gay Halbert. Miss Wright received many beautiful gifts. Miss Wright was honored with showers including one on Monday evening, March 30th, given by Mrs. L. Bemhart, Bridgeport, Ind. and one on Thursday evening, March 26th, given by Miss Sandy Jumpp. On Tuesday, March 31st, an open house was held by the bride’s mother for friends and the bride’s attendants. Mr. and Mrs. Harry Sanders, Bill and Alice, visited Mrs. Sanders’ brother, Hardy Rasor and family of New Albany during Spring vacation. They also visited relatives and friends in Rockport, Indiana.

Two Speedway bands will participate in the band auditions at Sheridan next Saturday, April 11. The Varsity Band under the direction of Mr. Dalton Wicker will play at 3:20 fast time. The Cadet Band under the direction of Miss Nancy Rust will play at 4:20. This will be the first contest appearance for the Cadet Band which is composed of Bth, 9th, and 10th grade students who are not in the Varsity Band. Both bands will leave Speedway at 1:30 by bus. Parents are invited to attend the contest.

Jo Ellen Haynes placed second in the Giris’ Extemporaneous Speaking section of the zone speech contest last Saturday at Tech High School. She will now represent Speedway High School in the finals of the state speech contest on April 25. Others who participated last Saturday were Alice Balmer, Bob Johnson, and Brenda Montgomery. On Thursday members of the junior and senior Business Education classes were to take the spelling test sponsored by the National Office Management Association. The test is 100 difficult words selected from a list of 600 that have previously been given to students.
