ST. CHRISTOPHER’S CATHOLIC CHURCH (Continued from Page 1) Mary Ellen Benedetto, Mary Toney, and Jan Wheasler modelled their prize winning dresses. Mrs. James Breen, St. Christopher delegate, and several other Speedway ladies attended the workshop. Henry (Hank) Rosner would like for us to tell everyone that he did not have a heart attack, but that he went to the hospital last week to keep from having one. He came home from the hospital yesterday, and after a couple of weeks rest in bed at home will be as good as ever—maybe even better. Harry and Mary (Rosner) Parker and children are here from New Mexico and will be around awhile. Lenten services at St. Christopher—daily morning Masses at 6:15 and 8 o’clock. Sacred Heart devotions at 7:30 on Wednesday evenings, followed by a Mass at 8 p.m. Stations or the Way of the Cross at 7:30 Friday evenings, followed by Benediction. Junior C.Y.O.s, the Girl Scouts and the Brownies will receive corporate Holy Communion at the 8 o’clock Mass next Sunday. Breakfast of doughnuts, coffee and milk will be served in the social room following the Mass for anyone and everyone who wishes to come. Following the installation of the new C.Y.O. officers Tuesday evening, the West Side C.Y.O. units danced to record music in the social room. The new president, Jerry Rosner, vice-president, Ronnie

Ellison, Social, and Ronnie Volpatti and Jackie Schindler, Athletic. Archdiocesan Council of Catholic Nurses will have a Retreat at Fatima Retreat House February 27-28-March Ist. Next Sunday afternoon, February 15th, from 2:30 to 4:30, high school seniors and their parents are invited to visit Marian College on Cold Spring Road and attend a college information program. The program is planned to answer questions about such things as admission requirements, courses, cost, et cetera. Seniors and parents from all high schools are invited. The College confers the degrees of Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science. We would like to highly recommend the training and atmosphere at Marian for any boy or girl aspiring for a B.A. or a B.S. degree. On last Friday the eighth grade of St. Christopher school took a guided tour through the Butler Planetarium. Sister Mary Dennis, eighth grade teacher and superior of the school, accompanied the boys and girls. Mesdames Morris Gambrail, Margeurite Allen, Donald Ellison, Christopher Ringwood and Mr. Hubert Wirtz, parents, drove the party over to Butler. Pray your Rosary daily for peace in the world. SCHOOL NEWS (Continued from Page 1) In the American Legion Oratorical Contest held at Speedway Monday night Bart Updike won first place with Bob Scott finishing second. Karen White and Bob Johnson tied for third place. Bart will represent Speedway in p contest with the other Marion County schools. Several Speedway students received a first division rating in the music contest at Technical High School last Saturday and will participate in the state contest February 21. They were: Paula Winterfeldt, flute solo and flute trio; Sally Kern, flute trio; Gay Halbert, flute trio; Mary Jane Blase, clarinet solo; Bill Hackett, trombone solo; Marcia Pollock, French horn solo; Barbara Runkel, French horn solo; Gary Green, baritone solo; Beverly Bates, and Beverly Trueblood, flute duet; Nancy Hiatt, Jim Robinson, and Tom Howard, clarinet trio; Brian Trentham, trombone solo; Karen Takacs, flute solo.
Second division winners were Gay Halbert, Sally Kern, Mike Anthony, Ralph Logston, Mimi Stout, Nancy Wraight, Denny Hackett, Nancy Kern, Ron LaFeber, and Jerry Black. Third division winners were Jeanette Potter, Sally Kern, and Bob Parke. The varsity basketball squad split in the two games last weekend, losing to Ben Davis 73-63 on Friday night and defeating Zionsville 57-51 Saturday night. The reserve team lost to Ben Davis 37-29 and to Zionsville 44-39. The eighth grade team won from Decatur Central 34-22 in the first game of the Mid-State Tourney last Thursday and lost to Greenwood 35-29 in the semifinal game Saturday. Monday night the eighth grade was defeated 26-25 by Lawrence Central in the first game of the Marion County Tourney.
