Of this amount industry and some few of the larger business establishments is assessed at $12,053,570, this leaves $14,117,820 that residential and small business is assessed. This will straighten a hazardous “S” curve. It is understood that the county highway is to make the improvement. We want to correct some newspaper articles as published by some of the downtown papers regarding “Free Parking” on Main Street. Although parking meters will be hooded from 10:00 A.M. Friday through 6:00 P.M. Saturday, the two-hour time limit parking restriction will be enforced. Another flood threat has come and gone and many telephone calls came to the Town Hall from

SPEEDWAY CHRISTIAN CHURCH (Continued from Page 1) CHANCEL FLOWERS for next Sunday will be given by Mr. and Mrs Arthur E. Blum. WORKERS CONFERENCE. There will be a meeting at the church next Sunday afternoon at 2:30 p.m. for all superintendents, teachers and helpers in the Church School. Please try to attend as this will be a very important meeting. SENIOR HI C.Y.F. will meet Sunday, February 1, at 5:00 p.m. for recreation and Fellowship. Study and worship will begin at 7:00. At the business meeting plans for the Chili Supper will be discussed. Mr. Ronald Updike will lead the study on the subject, “Sermon On The Mount As Applied For Today.” FUNCTIONAL COMMITTEES will convene for their various departmental meetings at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, February 2. At 8:30 p.m. the Pastor’s Cabinet will meet. It is very important that all members in the departments attend as the Committees cannot function properly without the full cooperation of everyone. DORCAS, EVENING, KEZIA AND NAOMI CIRCLES will meet Tuesday, February 3rd, at 7:30 p.m. for a joint session. For the business meeting of each Circle, Dorcas will meet in the Senior Hi Room, Evening in the Junior Hi Room, Kezia in Fellowship Hall and Naomi in the Young Settlers room. At 8:15 all will meet in Fellowship Hall for the program which will include a film, “The Mid-East Profile.” Dorcas Circle will act as hostess and take care of decorations; Evening Circle will have worship; Naomi, the program; and Kezia, the refreshments. During the month of February, the Children’s Chorale, Chapel and Cloister Choirs will be robed by Dorcas Circle with Mrs. Frank Amich as chairman. During the month of January, Mary-Martha Circle attended with Mrs. Clinton Hawkins, Sr., Mrs. Louis Smith and Mrs. Williams Evans assisting. PLAN AHEAD! However, we here at the Town Hall try to keep informed as to developments through the Indiana State Flood Control Board, an organization who is quite capable and well equipped. During this last threat there was no time when Speedway was endangered. On questioning some of our callers we learned that they were hearing news flashes over their radios. Where the newscasters got their information we do not know. We do

know that no such information was given out from the Town Hall, nor the Indiana State Flood Control Board. It would seem to us that anyone having a powerful instrument at his disposal, such as a newscaster, should use extreme caution about the authenticity of his newscasts. It’s unfortunate that so many people had to suffer so much mental anguish because of unfounded rumors. ; A fellow who is always declaring he’s no fool usually has his suspicions. x
