Speedway reserves and varsity lost two close games at North Central Saturday night, the reserves by a 31-27 score and the varsity 64-62. The varsity players turned in one of their best games of the season leading 11 points at the end of the 3rd quarter, but lost when they were unable to hit the last quarter while North Central made almost every shot taken.

Senior M.YJF. Devotions were given by Loretta Perkins. Emil Massed, an exchange student from Jordan, will show slides from the Holy Land Sunday, February Bth. We will go to Frankfort for our District meeting at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, February Itth. We will have a dessert auction and everyone is invited. Vic Knight At Indiana Roof Vic Knight and his orchestra will play on the Indiana Roof next Saturday night, January 31. This will be the first Saturday night dance this season due to the heavy rental schedule to private organizations for banquets, din-ner-dances, etc., on that night. Knight will bring his fifteen piece aggregation for the four hour dance which starts at 8:30, with doors opening at 8. The Roof Club has booked The Jimmy Dorsey Band with Jimmy Cassell for its next “name” attraction on Sunday, February 22. Tickets for this dance will go on sale next week. The Glen Miller orchestra with Ray McKinley, previously announced for Sunday, March Ist, will be here on Sunday, March Bth. Tickets for this will also go on sale shortly.
GIRL SCOUT AND BROWNIE NEWS Girl Scout Troop 247 visited John Herron Art Museum January 15th. Nine girls enjoyed a very interesting tour of the ageold statues and paintings. Our thanks to Mrs. Joyce Russert and Mrs. Marian Giant who furnished transportation. ' Troop 471 went on an overnight January 23-24 and stayed in the White House at Camp Dellwood. "May In January" For Psi lota Xi Members The annual Mid-Year Luncheon of the National Psi lota Xi sorority will be attended Saturday, January 31, 1959 by delegates and members from 95 chapters at the Murat Temple, Indianapolis, Indiana. Mrs. Maurice King and Mrs. Geo. Hunt of the local Gamma Theta chapter will serve as official delegates. Also attending from Speedway will be Mesdames Clyde Sallee, Lyle Neat, John Williams, Ralph Johnson, Charles Nay, Robert Scheeffer, Dale Williams, T. A. Hanna, Harold Marvel, Robert Messenger, Jack O’Neal, Donald Pirtle, Maurice Smith, R. G. Foland, Harold Douglas, W. F. Betsill, Robert Kryter, Robert Elson, Edward Hawkins, Henry Birk.
Alphi Chi chapter of Hagerstown, Indiana, will be hostess to the 900 members attending. Mrs. Guy Welliver is general chairman and Mrs. Jack Bryan is co-chair-man. Invitations, printed in black and white Old English type, have been issued carrying out the theme of the Mid-Year Luncheon, “Old English May Day.” A coffee hour and registration period at 10:30 (CJD.T.) will be followed by the luncheon at 12:00 o’clock. Guests will be seated at 100 tables for eight. Each table will be centered with a white Maypole with colorful turquoise ribbons reaching to each place setting. A large Maypole will be featured in the center of the Egyptian Room, which will be functional as well as decorative when the Earlham College Players and Singers will present portions of the traditional Earlham College May Day pageant. Dances will include the Maypole dance, the Morris Men dances, and the English Circle dances. Music will be provided by the Madrigals sung by strolling singers from the Earlham College Concert Choir as well as Village Waits performing on wind instruments.
