Clermont To Get Branch Office . Of Speedway State Bank
A new branch office of Speedway State Bank will open for business in Clermont in February, it was announced today by S. P. Hunter, president. The exact date will be announced in the near future. The branch will be located at the northeast corner of State Road 136 and Tansel Road. Installation of counters and other interior construction are well on the way to completion. Complete banking and loan facilities will be offered at the new branch, according to Mr. Hunter. “We are going to give the people in and around Clermont the same friendly, convenient and speedy service we give at our main office in Speedway.” An auto bank window will be one of the features of the Clermont branch. These are the same hours as the walkup window at the main bank in Speedway and, according to Hunter, are the longest banking hours in Marion County. The branch will also be equipped with an outside depository making it possible to deposit money or checks at all times, day or night. Manager of the new Clermont branch will be Emil R. Wimpelberg who joined Speedway State Bank a year ago after four years service with the Lawrence branch of the Oaklandon State Bank. Prior to going to Lawrence, he served seven years with Citizens National Bank, Evansville. Mr. Wimpelberg and his family recently moved to 3662 Pine Crest Drive just east of Clermont.
Winter Festival “Tops in Food” will be served Friday and Saturday evenings, February 6th and 7th, at St. Christopher Winter Festival, beginning at 4:30 in the social room of the parish school, 5335 West 16th street. Delicious fish sandwiches will be served each evening roast beef dinner Saturday evening only—homemade pies and cakes to your liking. Carry-out Service will be available both nights. Many booths will provide fun for all, including a record booth, a candy booth and a fish pond. Gordon Nuck, president of the Holy Name Society, is general chairman of the Festival. Mrs. Vanard Sherman, president of the Altar Society, is general chairman of the “Tops in Food.”

Headlining a special stage show at the Speedway Theatre Sunday, February 1, are “Keetie and the Kats.” The two hour program of rock ’n roll music will also feature Jack Morrow, WIBC disc jockey, and the songs of Jimmy Clendening. Two performances will be presented Sunday—at 2:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. Because of this unusual stage attraction, there will not be a film show this Sunday. Lecture On Alaska The School of Missions, of St. Mark Methodist Church, W. 16th and Medford, will present Dr. Edwin R. Garrison in an illustrated lecture on Alaska on Sunday evening. February Ist at 6:45 p.m. Dr. Garrison is a graduate of DePauw University and Drew Theological Seminary. He has held several pastorates in the Nbrth Indiana Conference of the Methodist Church and was Superintendent of the Wabash Dis.teiftt from 1942 to 1947. At present he is Administrative Assistant of the Indiana Area of the Methodist Church. He visited Alaska in 1955 and made an extensive study of Methodist work there. His lecture at St. Mark will be based on his personal observations. A Coffee Hour will follow the service.

Sandy Syphera Receives High Scout Honor Miss Sandy Syphers, 1651 Cunningham in Speedway, is one of the 32 Senior Giri Scouts selected by the Hoosier Capital Girl Scout Council to attend the Senior Roundup in Colorado in July, it was announced today. The girls selected were chosen from the many applicants on the basis of skill in camping, maturity, personality, interest and experience. Sandy is now a member of Troop No. 166 and a student at Speedway High School. Scouts in the Hoosier Capital Council have been taking training since October in Photography, painting, hand arts, cooking, dramatics, and singing. Now that the girls have been selected to attend the Roundup, more concentrated training will begin in studying the history and background of our state as well as in specific camping skills. At the Senior Roundup, Scouts from all 49 states and many foreign countries will camp together for two weeks and share information about their home country, state, and community. The theme of the Roundup to be held at the foot of Pike’s Peak is “A Mile High and A World Wide.”
New Afternoon. Circle To Be Formed A new afternoon Circle of the Christian Women’s Fellowship of Speedway Christian Church is being formed soon. The first meeting will be at the home of Mrs. Nellie Bilbee, 5417 W. 16th Street, Wednesday, February 4, at 1:00 p.m. Dr. Montgomery will be present and will discuss Steward- . ship of Time and Why Study Missions. Ruth Parke, President of C.W.F., will attend and explain the duties of the officers and committee chairmen, and Geraldine Scott will talk on the purpose and function of the Circles. Questions will be answered. Several names have been suggested for the new Circle; and programs for the remainder of this year will be given by members of other circles. If you are now a member of a Circle and would like to transfer or if you now attend church and are interested in joining a Circle, call Nellie Bilbee, CH. 40304, membership chairman of Christian Women’s Fellowship. There are now nine Circles in the Fellowship of which two are Morning Circles, three are Afternoon and four are Night Circles. The wide variety of meeting dates and time are planned to meet the need of all the women of the church. Four times a year the Circles meet together for greater fellowship, study and worship.

Mrs. Millie Holtke, Canteen Chairman, has contacted Miss Lee Harris and a group of dancers to be on hand Thursday evening, January 29, at 6:30 p.m. to put on a demonstration and also give a free lesson of the American Bandstand style of dancing. DOG OWNERS The present area rabies guarantee is in effect to May 31,195 ft The Speedway Police Dept has been receiving numerous calls and complaints on dogs running loose in this neighborhood. Especially following: the children to school, and running loose on the playground. These dogs some of which are strays but most of them are dogs owned by resident’s of Speedway. All owners of dogs are asked to keep their dogs confined to their own property. All dogs picked up by the Speedway Police Dept, and confined in the kennels will not be released to the owner until a fine of $5.00 be paid at the Clerk Treasurers office. After dog owners have once been warned and their dog is caught running loose or complained on the Speedway Police Dept, will then file charges upon the dog owner. Speedway Police Dept.
