af Dimes ‘v- (Continued from Page 1) throughout Marion County, John K. Hamer, campaign director, laid today. V The coin collectors were spotted in offices, industrial plants, stores, markets, cases and elsewhere in the county by volunteers. Each coin collector consists of three cylinders symbolizing the three patient aid programs of the expanded National Foundation in the fields of arthritis, birth defects and polio. Also shown are pictures of three children suffering from these conditions. “The added responsibilities of the National Foundation mean that the 1959 March of Dimes must raise much more money,” the campaign director added. “In the area of arthritis and rheumatism alone, at least 11 milE: are crippled in the United tes, and of these 30,000 are into and children. In the case of birth defects, 250,000 infants are born each year with congenital analformations (not birth injuries). Added to thes problems, our chapters still have 50,000 polio patients on aid rolls. “All of this makes it clear why it will take larger March of Dimes contributions this January if the organization that put polio on the run is to move on Toward Greater Victories’.”
Frosting Tip If your family likes boiled frosting, but you have problems when making it because it becomes too sticky or grandular, these suggestions from Dorothy Messerschmidt, Marion County Consumer Agent, may be helpful. Poor quality boiled frosting can result from too little egg white, lack of cream of tartar or corn syrup, or from the wrong amount of beating. One cup of sugar to two egg whites is the best proportion if other ingredients are standard. In a study done by home economists it was found that use of only one egg white with one cup of sugar resulted in less fluffy frosting with poor keeping qualities. Too little beating yielded a sticky frosting; too much beating caused a sugary crust, and in some cases, made the frosting thin and sticky. It was also determined through this study that 239’F. was the best cooking temperature for the syrup. Following these suggestions frosting can be made that will spread easily and have a light, marshmallow-like inner texture.
