Some buy elaborate wreaths downtown, while others make simple holly or cedar wreaths on which four candles are placed. One candle is lighted the first week each evening while the family gather round to hear told or listen to reading from the Bible about the events preceding the birth of Jesus Christ. Then the candle is extinguished until the next evening. Two candles are lighted the second week, three the next week, and so on until Christmas. The first candle was lighted Sunday evening.
