Christmas Seal Sale The annual kick-off luncheon for the sale of Tuberculosis Christmas Seals was held November 17th at 12 noon in the Roof Garden of the Serevin Hotel, according to D. A. C. Hill, President of the Marion County Tuberculosis Association. John E. Egdorf, Executive Director of the Tuberculosis Institute of Chicago and Cook County addressed approximately 150 persons as the luncheon’s principal speaker. He delivered a hard-hit-ting presentation of the continued big TB problem and the role of the TB Christmas Seal in meeting that problem. The TB leader said that all of the residents of Marion County would begin receiving their 1958 Christmas Seals over this weekend. This is the 52nd annual sale of Christmas Seals in the fight against tuberculosis and Hill said that the needs today are as great as ever before. “Although the death rate from tuberculosis has been reduced sharply as science has waged war on the disease,” the Association President said, “there are nearly as many new cases of TB reported as ever before.” Health Department figures show that 442 new cases of TB were reported in 1957, the third consecutive year for an increase. It appears that there may by an increase again this year on the basis of provisional figures for the first half of the year
Lowell B. Nussbaum, columnist for the Indianapolis Star, extended greetings during the luncheon. He is the Chairman of the 1958 sale of seals. Special guests were Mr. and Mrs. John Lynch and their ten year old daughter, Carol. Carol is making an interesting appearance on the general appeal letter which will arrive with the Christmas Seals. “Her daddy had TB a year and a half ago,” Nussbaum said, “and Carol likes to advertize the importance of buying Christmas Seals.” 75 At LU.
