WATCH FOR NEWS OF TRI KAPPA NEW BRIDGE-A-RAMA STARTING OCTOBER 1 TOWN TOPICS (Continued from Page 1) the incoming year (1959) has been adopted by your Town Board. The rate as adopted is $1.54 per SIOO valuation. It now goes to the Marion County Adjustment Board for review and then to the State Tax Board for final approval. The probabilities are that the rate will be reduced. The 1959 rate as finally approved by the State Tax Board is sl.Ol. Another attempt will be made to clean Meyers Ditch between McCray St and 25th St. The fact that the ditch itself is owned by private owners and has never been dedicated may bring about some complications. The Clerk reported that the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers had verified the fact that the contract had been let for the repair of the Cunningham Park Levee and the contractor should start work within a few days. The police department has been ordered to notify peddlers using mechanical devices, such as load speakers, bells, etc., to lower the volume to where it would not be a nuisance.
Mr. Bradley, reported that the Marion County Plan Commission had voted unfavorably on the towns petition to annex the Lacy Speedway Farms. It was indicated by the attorney representing the Lacy interests that they might look more favorably on a petition requesting only the 65 acres actually needed for school and town purposes. The need is so great and time so important that the Board has agreed to file another petition requesting the 65 acres only. Due to the many new building materials on the market, the Board on the recommendation of the Building Inspector, has approved the use of %” masonite siding on an experimental house only. Things are becoming too crowded at the Town Hall, Mr. Robbins and Mr. Jacobs have moved their offices to the new utility building south of the Town Hall. Their telephone number will remain the same, CH. 1-2566. Chief Collins office will be moved to the second floor where he will have more room and more privacy. His telephone number will remain the same, CH. 4-9543.
Do you know that you can always find the Speedway Police and Fire Department telephone number on the very first sheet of your telephone directory. In fact, all emergency telephones including the F. 8.1., State Police, Marion County Sheriff, Indianapolis Police and Fire and surrounding towns and cities. I hope you never have an emergency call to make but in case you do its nice to find it where you first look. In reviewing some of the comments on bridges as made by Speedway citizens in the March Questionnaire, I was surprised to find that two-thirds of all of the people who made comment were not acquainted with the fact that the Lyndhurst Drive Bridge, the Tenth Street Bridge, the Twentyfirst Street Bridge, the Crawfordsville Road Bridge and both Railroad Bridges were not in Speedway. Of the thirty comments made only ten referred to the bridges on Twenty-fifth Street and on Georgetown Road. These are the only two bridges within the town limits that the town can improve and maintain. All of the others mentioned are either State or County property. 20 years ago it took about 3 months wages to pay the hospital bills for a cose of pneumonia. Today it is cured at home with drugs costing about 5 hours wages. Just another reason why TODAY'S PRESCRIPTION IS THE BIGGEST BARGAIN IN HISTORY.
