Corneille O. Strother has been appointed Vice-President —■ Research of Union Carbide Nuclear Company, Divisteh of Union Carbide Corporation, if was announced by Lymah A. Bliss, Division President Dr. Strother joined Union Carbide in 1935 as i research chemist for Union Carbide Chemicals Company, Division of the Corporation, at South Charleston, West Virginia. From there he moved to Mellon Institute where he worked for a year before joining Linde Company, another Division of the Corporation, at Tonawanda. New York. He rose to the position of Assistant Director of Research at Tonawanda. Dr. Strother was awarded the Schoelkopf Medal of the American Chemical Society in 1951. In 1956 he was transferred to the New York office as Assistant Manager —Physical Chemistry in the Corporation’s Research Administration Department. He was appointed Acting Director of Research for Union Carbide Nuclear earlier this year. Dr. Strother was bom in Co-

lumbus, Georgia. He received the degree of AJB. in chemistry from Williams College ih 1930; MA. in chemistry from Oberlin College in 1931) and MA in 1932, and PhD. to chemistry in 1933 from Princeton University. He did postdoctorate research in spectroscopy for one year at Munich University
