School News (Continued from Page 1) The Speedway High School Chorus under the direction of Mr. Dalton Wicker presented the musical program for the last general session of the Convention of the National Association of Secondary School Principals held in Indianapolis last week. About 2,000 principals attended this final session at the Murat Temple, and many favorable comments were heard concerning the performance of the Speedway students. On last Wednesday afternoon forty-seven high school principals from twenty-one different states visited Speedway High School touring the building and asking questions about staff, curriculum, community and student body. Included in this group were principals from such distant places as Quantico, Virginia, Fargo, North Dakota, Clarksdale, Mississippi, Okalhoma City, Oklahoma, Lamar, Colorado, Orlando, Florida, Millbury, Massachusetts, Canonsburg, Pennsylvania, Mona, Utah, and Brantford, Ontario, Canada. In the State Solo and Ensemble Contest at Butler University last Saturday, Bill Hackett received first division in trombone and Beverly Bates and Beverly Trueblood received first division in a flute duet.

Speedway defeated Greenwood in both the varsity and reserve basketball games at Speedway last Friday night The varsity won 59-31 and the reserves, 32-22. Winners for the eighth and final week of the elementary basketball program were the Sparks, Hoosiers, Jets, and Rockets in the fifth grade league and the Satans, Trojans, Bulldogs, and Chiefs in the sixth grade league. During Lent there are three Masses on Wednesday—at 6:15 in the morning, at 8 in the morning, and again at 8 in the evening, following the Sacred Heart Devotions. The 6:15 Mass during Lent is also said in the auditorium. Frequent Communion is given and confessions are heard in the small chapel upstairs in the school after the 6:15 Mass. Father James Doherty, professor at the Latin School and associate editor of the Indiana Catholic, will be the speaker. Supper in the College cafeteria will be served for seventy-five cents. All high school students are not only invited, but expected to take part in this spiritual activity, especially those students who are attending public school who have no opportunity for days of recollection or retreats. The Committee of Holy Name Society are still selling memberships in the S£. Christopher Clothing Club. Tentative plans were made to raise the Tower of the New Church Wednesday of this week, weather conditions permitting. Collections were taken up after all the Masses Sunday for the Indian and Negro Missions. Anyone who wishes may place their membership envelopes in the Propagation of the Faith in the collection baskets on , Sunday. These memberships are now due.
