ST. catuueic cmvbcb (Continued Hun Page I) Health project, helping Mrs. Julia Pace of West 15th Street. Some of St. Christopher men have expressed the desire tcrinake another Retreat at Alvema this month—date November 22-23-24. If any man is interested, he should contact Herbert Grande, president of the Holy Name Society, CH. 4-3471, not later than tonight. Non-Catholic men are invited to make these retreats—which really means a spiritual vacation—and many non-Catholic men have made them. A thought of Samuel Miller Hageman quoted in Sunday’s paper comes to mind—“To be alone with Silence is to be alone with God”—and the many opportunities afforded for silence means that there are many times you will be alone with God. The first meeting of the newly organized West Side Senior C.Y.O. was held Monday night at Holy Trinity. This group is made up of unmarried people between the ages of 18 and 30. The Junior C.Y.O. group of St. Christopher met Tuesday evening at 7:30 for a Holy Half-Hour and then proceeded to the Social Room for business and fun. Patricia Aharen of St. Christopher school was rushed to the hospital last Monday afternoon for an emergency appendectomy. She was operated on at 5 o’clock. Pat is home now and is getting along nicely, but won’t be able to return to school until after Thanksgiving. We wish to add our congratulations to Gary Tofil of St. Christopher school. This year the most valuable player award in football went to Gary. At the Father and Son breakfast Gary received a football autographed by the coaches and players of Notre Dame University. And in the afternoon at the half of the championship game at the C.Y.O. Stadium, Gary, together with the outstanding players of the other teams, received a gold medal from Father John Elford, C.Y.O. Director. The Sisters wish to express their appdeciation through the Flyer for the Pound Party which has stacked the pantry shelves for the winter. They say give a special thanks to all Room Mothers for their time and interest in the party. And we say, if there is anyone who still wants to give the good Nuns something, you may take it down to the convent—front door or back door—and we are sure it will be gladly received. And again, we say, there are times when non-Catholics would like to give our good Sisters something. Well, do. They would be most happy to receive your gifts of love. They are ordinary women doing the work of God—not ordinary in that sense, but certainly not to be shied away from. .Our Lady of Fatima Discussion Group met at the home of Mrs. Regina Martyn in Eagledale Monday evening at 8 p.m. Don’t forget one of our neighboring parishes are having their Turkey Dinner Sunday—ST. MICHAEL. Annual ’57 Clothing Drive for the Needy opens November 24th. The “needy has not abated but rather increased,” Baltimore’s Archbishop Francis P. Keough said in announcing that the ninth annual Thanksgiving Clothing Campaign will be conducted nation-wide from November 24 to 30 for the benefit of the needy overseas. Last year 16,592,833 pounds of clothes and blankets was shipped to those in desperate need throughout the world. This Bishops Clothing Drive has grown into the largest private relief agency in the world. Surplus food products provided by the generosity of the United States Government have through this agency been distributed to millions of destitute people in Europe, Asia, Africa and South America. St. Christopher people are asked to bring their donations of good warm clothing and blankets down to the social room as soon as possible where it will be properly boxed and forwarded. Again we invite anyone in Speedway to help if they care to do so to this most worthy cause, remembering always that we are all our brother’s keeper. - The men of St. Christopher have again been called to help on working on the new Church. Each night groups gather at 7 p.m. and the lights burn quite late. What a privilege! High Masses at 7:30 each morning this week—On Monday for a Special Intention, Tuesday for Nellie Craft, requested the Carroll and Cronin families, Wednesday for Hillard Aharen, requested by Louis, Ruth, and Mary Aharen, Thursday for Alfred Aulbach, requested by William Rosner family, Friday Thanksgiving requested by Mr. and Mrs. Richard Carroll, and Saturday for your deceased relatives and friends. Don’t forget to order your Thanksgiving and Christmas PECANS soon, and your Black Walnuts too. Pray daily your Rosary for peace in the world. Nora Bray
