DePauw University Choir A real treat is in store for Speedway on Sunday, November 10th when the DePauw University Choir will present a concert in the Speedway High School gym at 4:00 p.m. This talented group of forty students from Greencastle offers the unbeatable combination of almost professional performing ability with the vitality and enthusiasm of college youth. Under the direction of Dr. George Gove, the Choir will offer a varied program that will please the entire family; There is another good reason for attending this concert. The Chancel Choir of the Speedway Methodist Church is sponsoring this program as their money-mak-ing project for the Building Fund of their church. Indeed, then, this musical program will be more than a passing pleasure—it will be a musical experience reaching into the future! Tickets are SI.OO adults; 50c children. Pre-school children are free. DEMOLAY NEWS Remember the DeMolay Hayride is Nov. 1 at 7:00 p.m. NO STAGS and the cost is $1.50 per couple. Your 1958 dues are due and MUST BE PAID BEFORE you can go on the hayride. Reservations must be made with Scott Urban and the money accompanying it. Meet at the Temple at 7:00 and bring your food; cider will be furnished. The reservations deadline is Oct. 30. The DeMolay Scrap Metal Drive will be held Nov. 9 (Saturday). I will- have your assignments made and will inform you. Sorry the dance was called off but we believed it best during the flu outbreak. St. Christopher Hobby Show St. School held their C.Y.O. Hobby Show Sunday, October 20. Winners from this show will exhibit their hobbies at the city-wide C.Y.O. Hobby Show, which will be held Monday, October 28 from 7:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. at the Catholic Community Center, 542 N. College Ave., Indianapolis. Baseball News The quarterly meeting of the Speedway Baseball Association will be held Thursday, October 24, 1957, at the American Legion Home on Georgetown Road at 7:30. This is the meeting for the election of officers for the com. ing year. All members are urged to attend. Jim Boswell, Pub. • GIRL SCOUT NEWS Brownie Troop 806 opened its fall season by having a wiener roast Thursday, Oct. 3 at the home of Mrs. Edgar Stewart, coleader. The girls also enjoyed a “cook-out” at Camp Dellwood on Saturday, Oct. 12. Last Saturday the girls planted crocus bulbs on the lawn at the James A. Allison School with thoughts of next spring in their minds. A Halloween party is planned for Oct. 31 at the home of their leader, Mrs. Albert Dirks. It was good to see Mrs. Stanley Crain, co-leader, back after an iUpess of a few weeks.
Girl Scout Troop 125 held its first meeting for this year on Oct. 9 with a much smaller group. It was held at the home of our new leader, Mrs. Mclntire. Her helpers are Mrs. Curry, Mrs. Mathis, Mrs. Cutler and Mrs. Price. We elected officers as follows, Lee Cutler, president; Sandra Feely, vice president; Jane Curry, secretary; Kathy Mathis, treasurer. We decided that we would have qur meetings every other Tuesday from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. We discussed what we would do for the Scout Fair Dec. 7. Mrs. Mathis helped us get a lot of ideas and showed us different things we could do.

Attention! All Spooks And Goblins A reminder to all “Spooks” and “Gobblins” of Speedway that the Lions Club Annual Halloween Party will be at the Speedway High School gymnasium on Saturday, Oct. 26. Cider and doughnuts will be served to all. There will also be a half-hour of sound cartoons. Silver dollars will be given away for costume prizes. $3.00 for first; $2.00 for second, and SI.OO for third. The groups will be: Prettiest, Ugliest, Most Original, Best Group (2 or more), and Special Prize of $3.00 to the cutest child under 6 years of age. Fall Festival Tonight Speedway Merchants Assn, is sponsoring a Fall Festival tonight, Thursday, October 24th, 8 to 10 pan. at the corner of 16th and Main (Linde Co. Tennis Courts). The purpose of the Festival is to show the people of Speedway and the Speedway area that the merchants and professional people of their town really appreciate their patronage. 11115 is the first time that anything like this has been attempted by the Association or any group in the town. The Festival will consist of square dancing and regular ballroom dancing on the Linde Company tennis courts. Music will be furnished by Paul Burton’s Orchestra and square dances will be called by Stan “Swish” Swisher. Free cider and donuts will be served during the evening by members of the Speedway Merchant’s Association. In case of bad weather it will be held at the Hayloft, 4300 W. 10th St. CUB SCOUT NEWS ben 2 would like to welcome Steve Schein and Mark Scolaro into the den. New officers are Rob Guidotti, Denner; David Link, Scribe; and Russell Sinks, Reporter. Cubs receiving awards at the last Pack Meeting were Rob Guidotti, David Link, Ronnie Feeley, and Russell Sinks. Den 3 wishes to welcome Bobcat James Moschenross into the den. Den 4 would like to thank Mrs. Prince for all she has done for the boys in the den during the six years she was den mother and to welcome Mrs. Croney as our new den mother. TURKEY DINNER The Michigan Street Methodist Church will hold their Turkey Dinner and Bazaar at the church, 2132 W. Michigan St., Wednesday, October 30th. Serving starts at 5:00 p.m. Adults $1.25, children under 12, 65c.
Speedway Little League Football
The 3rd and 4th Grade teams wound up the season with the following results: Ist place, Yanks; 2nd, Cubs; 3rd, Tigers; 4th, Giants. A picked 3rd-4th Grade team played Municipal Gardens to a scoreless tie last Saturday morning at Riverside. On Tuesday, Oct. 15 the Pistons defeated the Park Panther Jrs. by a score of 13 to 6. TDs by Kelly to Cotton, 1, Curtis 1, PAT by Allen. The sth-6th Grade teams still have one more week to play in their schedule. At present the standing are as follows: Ist, Rams; 2nd, Sparks; 3rd, Bulldogs; tied for 4th, Jets and Pistons. The Rams have played all four of their games and if the Sparks win their game Saturday morniqg, they and the Rams will be tied for Ist place. This should make for an interesting game. Come up and watch them at 10 a.m. Saturday morning, Oct. 26. The Jr. Spark Plug-Martins-ville game was called off because of sickness (both teams) and bad weather conditions. All teams will be in action this Friday night, Oct. 25 beginning at 6 p.m. at the High School Athletic Field. The 3rd-4th grade teams will play each other as will the sth-6th grade teams. At approximately 8 p.m. St. Christopher’s and the Jr. Spark Plugs will play a full game. This is an all Speedway event sponsored by the Speedway Little League Football Assn, and will provide some wonderful entertainment. Don’t miss it. On Monday, Oct. 28 at 6:00 p.m. a banquet for the Bth graders of the Jr. Spark Plugs and all the coaches will be held at the Speedway Christian Church. Mr. Keller of the Speedway State Bank will be the guest speaker. Movies of the Jr. Spark PlugPark Panther game will be shown. •
Junior High C.YJF. The regular monthly meeting of Junior High C.Y.F. will be held in fellowship Hall at 6:45 on Oct. 27. After a short business meeting Worship will be led by Kathie Smith. Mrs. Ray Griffin will review “Make Room for Randy,” which is our mission study book and will be introduced by Peggy Bonham, chairman of the Study Committee. Nancy Hiatt is in charge of the refreshments and Social Hour will be led by Jim Griffin.

The Speedway 'lainfield football game scheduled last Friday night was postponed and will be played Monday night, October 28, at 7:30 p.m. School attendance dropped considerably last week compared to the first six weeks of school. Attendance which averaged about 98 per cent the first six weeks dropped to 90 per cent last week. The number of absences was greater in the high school than in the elementary schools. Sharon Stout won First Division placement in Class B at State Twirling Contest last Saturday. National Merit Scholarship tests were given Tuesday, October 22, to forty members of the senior class. Results of these tests will be used by scholarship foundations and colleges and universities in the awarding of scholarships for 1958-59. (Continued on page 8)
