Fire Prevention Week October 6-12 October 6-12 has been proclaimed Fire Prevention Week by President Eisenhower, and Fire Chief Arnold W. Phillips appeals to Indianapolis residents to actively observe it by eliminating known fire hazards, especially in the homes. In commenting on the urgent need for practice of Fire Prevention in the homes, Chief Phillips said, “Carelessness and indifference to common fire dangers are responsible for 90 percent of all fires, and more than half of all fires occur in homes. Every day there are 1300 home fires in America!” How can we stop these home fires? Chief Phillips believes that one step in that direction is to have your home inspected for fire hazards by experts your firemen. He pointed out that in the past few years, local fire departments have found that home inspection programs are an excellent way to stop fires, and towns and cities all over the country are taking up the idea. “If you answered your doorbell during Fire Prevention Week to find a team of firemen on the doorstep, would you grant permission to them to inspect your home for fire hazards?” Chief

Phillips asks. He continues by saying, “Their purpose in making the inspection would be to help you make your home safer from fire by pointing out fire hazards you may be harboring unknowingly. We have no intention of tripping you up for some violation of the Fire Code Rules with our Home Inspection Program.” “Why not check you home and your habits for fire hazards today?” the Chief concludes. “Don’t let Fire beat the inspectors to your home!” RECREATION CLUB (Continued from Page 1) ber 24th. Linde Open House The Flame Plating Department of Linde Company will hold Open House on Saturday. Employees and their families will be welcomed to the new office and shop facilities at 1245 Main Street. Warren L. Donnelly, Production Manager, announced yesterday that building construction and substantial additions to existing equipment are now complete. These improvements will make it possible to meet the rapidly increasing demand for wear-resist-ant and heat-resistant coatings required on precision parts by American industry. Linde’s unique detonation process has found wide acceptance, particularly in the newer aeronautical turbine and jet propulsion fields, as well as in older industries requiring extreme durability in close-tolerance applications. Research and development work on new special-purpose coatings is continuing in Linde’s Speedway Laboratory, which originally introduced this method of bonding a paper-thin-coating to a metallic or ceramic surface in 1952. Employees will have an opportunity on Saturday to familiarize themselves with the complete Flame Plating operation and to show the members of their families how they spend their working hours. Refreshments and souvenirs will be provided. This occasion is also local recognition of the fiftieth anniversary of Linde Company. M. Dan Coogan, Safety Engineer, pointed out that the complete freedom from lost-time accidents in Flame Plating has been made possible by extreme safety consciousness and co-operation among the employees.
