Masses will be at 6:15 in the morning and at 8:00 in the evening. The children will have the opportunity to receive Holy Communion from 8:15 until 9 o’clock. Mrs. Jan Wheasler, Bth grade room mother, is chairman for the First Friday breakfast which will be served at 9 o’clock in the new church auditorium. More and more of the faithful keep the First Fridays by honoring the Sacred Heart of Jesus in receiving Holy Communion and hearing Mass if at all possible. Saturday is First Saturday. Keeping the First Saturdays was requested by our Holy Mother at Fatima for keeping peace in the world. Members of the Altar Society will receive corporate Holy Communion at the 8 o’clock Mass Sunday morning. Much grace is gained when Communion is received in a body. Annual Nut Sale The Young Settlers Class of the Speedway Christian Church is now engaged in its annual nut sale. It was recently announced that this married couples class was creating a scholarship fund to aid any young person of the church who plans to enter a Christian vocation. Members of the church will be contacted in the near future. However, there may be persons in the community who desire to purchase the SI.OO containers of cashew and mixed nuts. The sale will extend through the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays. Orders may be placed with Thomas Heaton, CH. 4-2262, or any member of the class. P.T.A. Study Group Once again we want to remind you of the panel program which will be held on Thursday, October 10, 1957, from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. at the A. C. Newby School. Speedway Recreation Club News BALLROOM DANCING INSTRUCTION Beginning October 7th at 7:30 p.m., ballroom dancing instruction will be given for 10 consecutive weeks at the Speedway Recreation Club. Mr. John Black of the Black Studios will be the instructor for the 10 lessons. The instruction is open to all club members and their guests. Come on all you Square Dancers, support your club. Friday night from 8:00 pan. to 11:00 pan., October 11th, there will be a square dance called by Gabe Owens. This will be a nice smooth evening of squares. He will have walk-throughs, so if you haven’t danced since last fall or longer, its time to get back in the groove again. There will be some dancers there from the present group of lessons given at your Speedway Recreation Club. They are new faces in square dancing at your club, so come on out and get acquainted. Flood Control Meeting A meeting for all residents in the Eagle Creek flood basin will be held at 10 o’clock the morning of Oct. 5, at 6448 West Ohio Street. Judge Norman E. Brennan will be in charge of the meeting which is being held for the purpose of working out a program for correction and prevention of floods along Eagle Creek. An executive board will be named to guide the organization and sub-committees will be named. It will be the purpose of the committee to obtain information from the various units of government relative to correcting the annual flooding of Eagle creek and to press for the right program to follow. At the meeting there will be presented a movie of the June 28th flood and a number of posters and photographs of the flood will be on display. Judge Brennan urges all interested persons to attend this meeting in an effort to obtain relief from devasting flood damage. Tri Kappa Tri Kappa sorority, Epsilon Eta Chapter will entertain the Delta Lamba Chapter of Greenwood at a Friendship Key party on Thursday, October 3rd at 7:30 p.m. at the Indiana National Bank Community room. The Friendship Key is passed from chapter to chapter throughout the state. The Chairman for the party is Mrs. R. Wayne Blind. Puppy Show The Hoosier Kennel Club extends an invitation to the town of Speedway to attend its annual all-breed puppy show on Sunday, October 6, at the Poultry Building of the Indiana State Fairgrounds. Over two-hundred and fifty pure-bred pups ranging in age from two months to one year will be competing for ribbons and trophies. Doors to the show will be open from 1:00 p.m. until judging is completed.

On Monday, September the 30th; the Speedway Police department received their first call on Halloween pranks. One full month ahead of Halloween. A Speedway resident called with the complaint that some children had performed various acts of destruction in her yard. Was this your child? How do you know it wasn’t? Do you know where your youngster was that evening—and other evenings? Do you know what he does when he does go out? Are you sure? What would you do if you learned that your boy or girl was guilty of such actions? Speedway Homemakers Mrs. Loretta Skeeters, W. 34th St., will be hostess to the Speedway Homemakers Club next Thursday, October 10th. Assisting Mrs. Skeeters will be Mesdames Bess wood. Speedway Methodist Church Rally Night And Fun Fest A most enjoyable evening awaits members of our congregation and their children on Thursday, October 10, beginning at 7:15 p.m., at the church. On that evening parents will have an opportunity to meet their child’s teacher, to learn what has been planned for their children in Sunday School this year, and to become informed thru an interesting question and answer period. Parents are invited to bring their children. While the parents are meeting, the children will be enjoying refreshments and a FUN FEST in Fellowship Hall. For the convenience of parents, children thru 3 years of age will be cared for in the Parish House. PLEASE REMEMBER: Thursday, October 10, is RALLY NIGHT. Saturday Cadeet Begins The Saturday Cadets of the West District Branch YMCA have launched their Fall program. This group of young boys meet every Saturday morning from 9 to 12 on the spacious property of the West District YMCA, 605 South High School Rd. During the Fall the program emphasis will be on touch football, soccer and various recreational games. The winter Program will center around handicrafts, movies and trips to various places of interest. In the Spring the Cadets will engage in softball, a track meet, and outdoor basketball. Any boy wishing to enroll in this interesting program may do so at the West Branch YMCA.

He is in Navy Intelligence School and stationed at Washington, D. C.

Town Board Reports (May—Juno—July) By Tri Kappa Reporter (Continued from last week) The Clerk-Treasurer was instructed to write a letter to the Marion Cotuity Highway requesting them to widen and improve West 10th Street between Cossell Road and Lyndhurst Drive. Street improvement needs throughout the Town were discussed and several items were agreed upon, among which included the lowering of the crown of Winton Avenue and Ford Street. A subdivision control bond in the amount of $224,850 was received from Fred Falender and approved. This covers the Phillip Development Corporation** Meadowood Addition. It was reported that the P & E. Railroad had completed the installation of the flasher signals at Lyndhurst and State Road 136. Mr. Couch, Town Engineer, was instructed to lay out a plan to improve the crossing which would allow four-lane traffic. The Town Clerk was instructed to remind the Indiana State Highway Department to install an automatic traffic signal at Crawfordsville Road and Lyndhurst Drive which would be synchronized with the railroad flasher signal. Letters were read from the Citizens Speedway Committee and the Indiana State Police Department congratulating the Speedway Police Department for the efficient way of handling the traffic during the 500 Mile Race period. Mr. Thomas Strouse, Chairman of the Park Board, presented plans as recommended by Mr. L. I. Couch for a new relief station and improvements to the present shelter house in the 15th Street Park. The Park Board was authorized to invite bids on construction. The Board discussed the advisability x»f allowing waste from the Star Trailer Court to empty into the Speedway Sewer System. After considerable discussion the Board denied the request. Following the flood it was recommended that the Town have a Civilian Defense Director who might prove to be very valuable during the time of a disaster. A meeting was held with Mr. Charles Broderick. Director of the Marion County Civilian Defense and the Board appointed Mr. Ganz Hammer, Sr., (Continued on Page 6)
