Traffic Safety The City of Muncie is the first Hoosier community to take advantage of the services of a newly created State Traffic Safety Survey Team. The survey team completed its fieldwork a week ago, and their findings were presented Tuesday to Muncie Mayor H. Arthur Tuhey and city officials. The survey group was recently formed under the guidance of Governor Handley’s Traffic Safety Committee, composed of state department heads. The services of this team have been offered upon request to the mayor of any Indiana community regardless of its size. Albert E. Huber, State Traffic Safety Director, explained that the survey team was organized to assist Hoosier cities in utilizing their present facilities to the best advantage for traffic safety. Director of the Indiana Traffic Safety Foundation. Mayor Tuhey complimented the team on the quality of the inspection and the feasibility of their recommendations. He indicated the group’s findings would be given full consiaeration and would serve as a guide in immediate and long-range traffic planning. The team is composed of Judge John A. Sabo, Indiana Office of Traffic Safety; Sergeant John Cook, Indiana State Police; William Neutzel, Division of School Traffic Safety Education and William Bilby, State Highway Department. There are five general areas in the survey: traffic engineering, police activities, courts, public support and school and pedestrian safety. Among other cities requesting the survey are: Marion, Vincennes, Columbia City, Wabash, Martinsville, Union City, Knox, Bluffton and Vevay.

The Navy’s Medical Research Laboratory and the Raytheon Manufacturing Company have demonstrated a new electronic oven for use in submarines. It will fry eggs in fifteen seconds, broil a steak in three minutes, or cook frozen vegetables in their card board containers in 15 minutes. Another important development in the Navy’s spreading airwing is the first lighter-than-man helicopter powered by dwarfsized rockets. The pilot straps himself in a bucket type open cockpit, and as he gains altitude his feet dangle out below the cockpit. When landing, the pilot’s feet act as human landing gear. The Navy has developed a versatile device called the UNIMIKE which cooks, mixes, refrigerates, and performs a variety of other food functions.
