Indiana Blind School Seniors Visit The Nation's Capitol

The Senior Class of the Indiana School for the Blind located in Indianapolis, Indiana, are visiting Washington today and Wednesday. They are the first group in the 110 year history of the school to take such a trip. Congressman Charles B. Brownson, of Indianapolis will be entertaining them in the Capitol (Room F-18) for lunch. Major General Melvin Maas, Chairman of the President’s Committee for the Physically Handicapped, will also be a guest at the luncheon. The students attending are: Calvin Word, Donald Koors, David Pike, Elmer Slentz, Gerald McGill, Julia Rice, Geraldine Sauer. They will be accompanied by their principal, Mr. Arthur Mosele and senior class sponsor, Miss Georgia L. Walker. Earlier in the day, Congressman Brownson arranged special tours through the White House, the Division for the Blind at the Library of Congress, and personally conducted them on the Floor of the House Chamber. Their schedule in the afternoon takes them on the boat ride to Mount Vernon and other monuments in Washington on their return. Wednesday they will be conducted on a special tour of the F. 8.1., the Voice of America Studios, lunch with the Director of the National Art Gallery, visit the Bureau of Printing and Engraving, the Smithsonian Institute and other points of interest. The students have worked and saved their money for several years in order to make the event.
