“500” Dance A Big Success Over two hundred teenagers joined in the fuh at the “500” Frolic Saturday Night, May 18 at the Speedway Recreation Club. Easy Gwynn, back for his second appearance for the teenagers, kept the discs spinning almost constantly from nine to twelve. As predicted, Bermudas were all the rage and added color to an already colorfully decorated ballroom. Tickets were miniature checkered ra«e flags. Winners of the jitterbug contests were Ruth Ann Mason and Elzie Wymer. Runners-up were Sharon Stout and Ronnie Powers. Third and fourth went to Bob Johnson and Gladys Clouser, Bill Rike and Sharon Sharpe. Carol Warren, selected queen through a drawing at the Bunny Hop, was presented a record album and presided over the drawing for the thirty-four door prizes —45 EP records.
Deanna Malaska presented Easy an honorary guest membership to our club. The Board of Directors had voted this in appreciatioir for what Easy has done for our teenagers. He not only came out for this and for the Bermuda Bounce free gratis, but he also furnished all the albums and records given as prizes at both hops. A great guy! And Johnny Black is another! He not only furnished his equipment for all the record hops, but also did the spinning at the November and February dances—no charge! This was the last dance sponsored by the present 1956-57 adult and teen committee for teen hops. On the adult committee were Mr. and Mrs. Robert Coulson, Johnny Black and Mr. and Mrs. Claude Queener. A big vote of thanks is due the teenagers who worked so hard to make these hops affairs that teens would really “go for.” Not only did they name and plan the themes for the dances but they also made tickets (which kids prize as souveniers), made and put up decorations, and made the posters for publicity. Serving throughout the season were: Sharon Stout, Deanna Malaska, Ronnie Power and Corky Queener. Barbara Coulson, Gladys Clouser, Phyllis Long and Don Akers also served on the first committee. On the second were Elizabeth Ann Cohan, Donna Rolles, Jerry Black and Jerry Roberts. Jim Brown designed and drew the race cars for this last hop. Myna Sue Brown and Richie Schwimmer also helped on this dance. Thank You! t Thank you for your wonderful support of the PT A Ice Cream supper. Several plates and pans are still uncalled for. You may pick them up at 1617 N. Lyndhurst at Marguerite Boomershines. Mrs. Wendell Kern, Pres. Mrs. Harry Vehling, Pub. BUY VETERAN MADE POPPIES MAY 24ih and 25th

Speedway State Bank Installs New Electronic Bookkeeping Equipment Electronics will bring increased accuracy to bookkeeping at the Speedway State Bank. At the same time it will make life easier and more pleasant for bookkeepers, according to Harry L. Keller, president. On order are three of Nationals Cash Register’s brand new “Post-Tronic” electronic machines designed to take most of the headaches out of the daily posting of checking accounts. “We are the first bank in Indiana to convert to this faster, more accurate equipment,” declared Keller. “Installation is scheduled for mid-summer.” “Unlike other businesses which close their books once a month,” points out Keller, “a bank has to close every day. This means everything must balance before the lights are turned out and we can go home. Accuracy is a must and so is speed unless we want to eat a cold dinner.”
One of the biggest headaches is the sorting of checks, the first thing each morning before the bookkeeping can begin. Most banks do this, as they have always done, alphabetically by customer name. At best this is a slow process aften confounded by unique and illegible signatures proudly regarded by their owners as personal trademarks. Similarity of names also adds to the confusion. Sorting by number, rather than by name, has proved far more speedy, accurate and less tiring. 'As the first step in getting ready for electronic bookkeeping, (Continued on page 7) Ladies' Party The ladies of St. Christopher Church are famous for their parties; another to be given Thursday, May 23rd from 7:00 o’clock until 11:00 p.m. Mrs. Ann Adair and her kitchen committee promise to have more of those delicious bar-b-que and ham sandwiches plus pop com, cold drinks and coffee.
