At the eight o’clock Mass Sunday, the Girl Scouts and Brownies will receive Holy Communion in a body. The Junior C.Y.O. will receive corporate Holy Communion at the 9 o’clock Mass. After each Mass, breakfast will be served downstairs in the dining room. A silver offering is asked for breakfast. The eighth grade boys were invited to the C.Y.O. Softball organization meeting last Sunday afternoon. St. Ann’s Discussion Group met with Agnes Benedetto at 9:30 yesterday morning. Mrs. Joyce Peters was hostess for the Sacred Heart Discussion Group Monday evening at 7:45. Rev. John Elford, Director of the C.Y.O. will be the guest speaker at the C.Y.O. Reception of Members dinner Tuesday, May 21st. The reception ceremony in the church at 6 p.m. will be followed by a pitch-in supper in the dining room at 6:30. "500” Festival Program An estimated 150,000 people will crowd the streets of Indianapolis for the first Annual “500” Festival Pageant which will be staged on May 29th, the eve of the Indianapolis 500 Mile Race Classic. The “500” Festival, an Indianapolis version of the famous New Orleans Mardi Gras, the Memphis Cotton Carnival, and the Annual California Rose Bowl Festival, will include a two hour colorful parade of outstanding bands, horse patrols, marching units and 23 gigantic floats. Almost 1,000 people will be dancing on the Circle Monument .streets in gay costumes to the tunes of square dance and popular music. There will also be an invitational ball for 500 couples on this festive night in the largest ballroom in the State of Indiana. 533 business, professional and civic leaders of greater Indianapolis have banded together in an organization known as “500” Festival Associates, Inc., with an objective of making Indianapolis at 500 mile race time, the most colorful and festive city in the United States. The present plans culminated weeks of planning and organizational work by representatives of the Indianapolis Chamber of Commerce, the Indianapolis Merchants Association, City Officials, the Indianapolis Convention Bureau, the Murat Shrine and 500 Speedway officials. Sam J. Freeman, President of L. Strauss & Company, and the new President of “500” Festival Associates, Inc., has expressed confidence that the Indianapolis celebration will grow to a three or four day affair within the next few years. “For more than 30 years, Indianapolis has needed such an organized festival and I have never been associated with a program or project that has enjoyed such sponstaneous approval on the part of our City,” he said.

CYF News The youth session of the State Convention of the Disciples of Christ is this Sunday at the University Park Christian Church, from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. Those who are planning to attend the Convention will leave the church at 1:30. There will be four different interest groups for C.Y.F. members. They will be (1) “Friendship To Marriage” by Richard Lentz, (2) “Getting Along With Parents” by Lyle Harvey, (3) “Facing the Question of War” by Louis Deer, and (4) “Serving Your Community” by Robert Welsh. This Sunday evening is also the CYF picnic at Danville. We will leave the church at 4:30 and will eat at 6:30. Those attending the convention, or working at the track, may go direct to the picnic. Bring your own wieners, buns and roasting sticks. Please bring a thermos of some sort of soft drink if you can. Also bring a blanket to sit on for vespers. Anyone who can drive be at the church by 4:30.

Open House At Sisters Of The Good Shepherd The Sisters of the Good Shepherd, 111 West Raymond Street, have recently completed a remodeling project at their Marydale School. To beter acquaint the people of Indianapolis with their school activities the Sisters will hold an Open House on May 17, 18 and 19. In conjunction with the Open House they are arranging a three-day Fiesta, opening with a Fish Fry on Friday the 17th from 5:30 to 8:00 pm. An Italian Spaghetti dinner will be served on Saturday, May 18th from 5:30 to 8:00 p.m. and a hot Ham Dinner will be served on Sunday from 11:30 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. An array of booths handling an endless variety of gifts and merchandise will end a carnival spirit to the occasion. All activities will be held in St. Joseph’s Hall located in the building to the rear of Fatima Retreat House. Ample parking space will be available under the supervision of the civil defense police. The cuisine will tempt the palate of the most exacting gourmet. The Sisters assure everyone a visit that will leave pleasant and lasting memories.
Stallwoods To Celebrate Golden Wedding Anniversary, May 21 Mr. and Mrs. George Stallwood, 5123 W. 15th Street will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary Tuesday, May 21st with an Open House at their home, from 7 to 10 p.m. A cordial invitation is extended to all their Speedway friends. Natives of England, they were married there, coming to the United States in 1921. They have lived in Speedway for 32 years. Mr. Stallwood retired from Allisons in 1951. 25th Wedding Anniversary Mr. and Mrs. Perry F. McDole, Sr., 1205 Rosner Drive celebrated their Silver wedding Anniversary Sunday, May 12th with a family pitch-in dinner given by May McDole. On Monday, May 27, at 7:30 p.m. in the Vocal Room of the Music Building there will be a meeting of parents and pupils interested in renting a musical instrument. The plan which will be further explained at the meeting will give parents an opportunity to rent an instrument for a period of three months and then either return the instalment or apply the rental on the purchase price, also, at this meeting, Mr. Dalton Wicker, Band Director, will explain the opportunities offered in the instrumental program and school bands. Instruction on the various instruments will be available this summer for pupils from the present 6th grade through high school. Concert To Honor Butler Seniors A special concert honoring Butler University seniors graduating in June will be given by the University Concert Band in the Hilton U. Brown Theatron at 5 p.m. May 19 (Sunday). Music majors from the 1957 class will conduct. They are Kenneth Smith, Monon; Charles Mathis, Peru; James Bossey, Knox; D. Royce Boyer, Vienna, Va., and Wendell Schmoe, Indianapolis. A Horn Quartette composed of John Miller, Indianapolis; Sherrie By field, Winamac; Irvin Martin, Lebanon, and Janet Cox, Westfield, will perform Waldlied by Muller. The band will feature works by Bach, Holst, Strauss, Hanson, Erickson, Latham and Belton. The public is invited.

Mr. Rubin (Dutch) Feick will be salesmanager with Mr. Joe Hanson as saleman. Mr. Feick has lived on the west side for the past 18 years and has been manager and salesman for the past 6 years with two of the leading General Motors Dealers. Mr. Feick is a member of Speedway Lodge, Scottish Rite and Murat Temple. Mr. Hanson, 5425 W. 16th St. will be remembered as owner and operator of the Texaco service station at Lyndhurst and 16th St. for many years where he made many friends. Prior to that time Mr. Hanson was in the automobile business in Bloomington, Indiana. Mr. DeLapp (Jimmie) announces the opening of a Used Car Sales outlet at 4802 Crawfordsville Road. Mr. DeLapp operated a successful used car sales lot known as DeLapp Auto Sales from 1949 through 1952. Since that time he has been a new and used car manager with two of the largest and oldest General Motors Dealers in Indianapolis. He also has had experience in service departments in both dealerships. Mr. DeLapp states that he will sell most all makes of current model cars and the highest quality used cars. All used cars will be a customer satisfaction policy.

“500” Frolic Saturday Night The Speedway Recreation Club will really be alive this Saturday night, May 18. Easy Gwenn, one of Indiana’s most popular disc jockeys, will be back to spin the platters for a really fabulous teen hop, the “500” FROLIC. Hours for this dance have been CHANGED TO 9:00 to 12:00 p.m. The Teen Committee will have this ballroom decorated in colorful race fashion typical of the famous Memorial Day Classic. And those flashy Bermudas most of the teenagers are planning to wear will add a touch of spice! Members must have their identification and guests are limited to one per member. Age: 12 to 17. Since an overflow crowd is expected, the balcony will be open. You’ll have (probably) your first glimpse of the pool filled for the 1957 season. Yesiree, swimming time is almost here—a week and two days to be exact! Job's Daughters May 18 is our Parent’s Night and our last initiation of this term. There will be a pitch-in dinner at 5:30. The meeting will be at 7:30. The time of year has rolled around for a new council and the May 18th meeting is the date set for the election. The choir will not have a practice. The girls who have money out from the skating party, the chili supper, or for other reasons, please have the money ready to turn in by May 25. Camp Fire Girls District VI The Mother-Daughter Tea and Fly-Up Ceremony for District VI will be May 19th from 2:30 to 4:00 p.m. at the Wesley Methodist Church, (in the basement) 3535 W. 30th St. In addition to the Fly-Up Ceremony, there will be a Camp Fire movie, singing, refreshments and a surprise for the mothers. ALL girls in District VI and their mothers are invited to come to this very lovely party. Lilly Scholarships Twenty Indianapolis coeds from Butler University were among those receiving Lilly Endowment scholarships in elementary education totaling $6,700. Huber, son of Mr. and Mrs. Titus Huber, not only grew up in our community and church, but is the only person to be ordained for the Christian ministry from our congregation. Brownie and Girl Scout News Brownie Troop 23 held a very impressive candlelight Investiture on Monday, May 6th in which the girls were presented with their fly-up wings and girl scout pins. Brownies who flew up were: Nancy Amick, Sherre Baker, Helen Bledsoe, Diane Carey, Linda Delong, Linda Eppen, Brenda Hawkins, Sue Johnson, Judy Keel, Lana Little, Marsha MacPhee, Pamela Muston, Betsy Najar, Lynn Parks, Deborah Pollock, Judy Riba, Janet Thompson, Teresa Todd and Marsha Wilson. Refreshments were planned and served by a very capable troop committee with the help of the mothers. The leader, Mrs. Ralph Thompson, Co-leaders, Mrs. Ralph Johnson and Mrs. Ralph Carey were pinned with yellow carnation corsages before the ceremony began. Thank you mothers, from the leaders and nineteen shining new Girl Scouts! Scouts! v Brownie Troop 471 invited their mothers for their candlelight Investiture Ceremony into Girl Scouts. Green decorated cake and punch were served. The table centerpiece was a Maypole in green and white with miniature Girl ScouW holding a streamer and a pink carnation for each other. Those invested were Janice Atkinson, Barbara Curry, Janet Farley, Linda Luder, Barbara Love, Sherre Raquet, Chris Solt, Lynn Schoenewey, Mary Schrock, Jane Scott, Mary Jo Zimmer, Carla Johnson, Linda Walker, Susan Coll and Susan Young.

Cub Scout News Pack 66 won a blue ribbon at the Scout Fair. We want to thank Jo Klippel, Chairman and Virginia Ridolfo, Co-Chairman for all of the planning and work they did to make this award possible. Thanks also to Art Gidotti for doing a fine job on the ticket sales and to Ken Lee for making the nice posters for the booth. Cub Soft Ball will begin on Tues., June 4th, at 6 o’clock at the High School Athletic Field. Parents are welcome to attend the games. Den 3 wishes to thank Jackie Eldridge for his birthday treat. The boys in Den 6 have been working on projects and were rewarded at the last meeting with a picnic. We want to welcome Gary Hermon into our den. Den 14 wants to welcome Stepen Riser and Hank Nickles into the den. We want to thank Mrs. Riser for the party she gave to celebrate the birthdays of Jim McCain and Steve Haig. Den 15. had a Hamburger Fry at their last meeting. We want to thank Mr. and Mrs. Brown and Mrs. Haehl for the picnic and also for all of the nice things they have done for the den during the past year.
