LIFE AND WORK INSTITUTE An impressive array of speakers and leaders will highlight the Annual Life and Work Institute of the Church Federation of Greater Indianapolis to be held at the Irvington Methodist Church, Friday and Saturday, January 25 and 26, 1957. Chairman of the Arrangements Committee, Cassius M. Fenton, Business Manager of Flanner House, says: “Our churches recognize the essential role they play in building the kind of world in which we can have some hope of peace and justice. Our far-flung missionary program is one of the means by which we now create fellowship and Christian brotherhood across national barriers and through Iron and Bamboo curtains. “The conference is open to the public. It is a work conference at which it is expected that the church’s program for working for world peace will be discussed in detail, so that the delegates may have a practical means of working in the local church.” Headline speaker for the conference is Dr. Robert Tobias, who has recently received his doctorate from the University of Geneva (Switzerland) Faculty of Theology. Dr. Tobias’ recent book, “Communist-Christian Encounter in East Europe,” is being acclaimed as the basic study in the field of the church and its relationship to the Communist challenge. Dr. Tobias lived in Geneva, Switzerland, for several years, working on the staff of the World Council of Churches, and combines a knowledge of the terrible threat of Communism to the Christian world with a profound faith that Christian people will be able to meet that challenge fearlessly and successfully. The program of the conference includes four discussion sections which show how world peace is the responsibility of all aspects of the church’s life: (1) Problems
Facing the Family in Working for Peace; (2) Community Relationships -.and Activities sos World Order; (3) The Role of the Church in Relation to Racism; (4) The Church in its International and Diplomatic Aspects.
