Another important reason that good attendance is emphasized is that the school receives state financial support on the basis of average daily attendance. In other words, the amount of state funds received by the school is based on days actually attended by pupils. In order to provide for absences which may not be exactly legal, but are important, the student is permitted to make up a maximum of three days of unexcused absences. For all unexcused absences beyond three days, the pupil will receive a failing grade for each day’s work missed and will not be permitted to make up the work. It is felt that this policy provides for emergencies and still complies rather closely with state attendance laws. The Speedway varsity and re-

Uno with brown paper 2 greased loaf pans, 8H x 4H x 2H-in. Pour batter into the pans. Place a pan of water on lower oven rack. Bake cakes 2>§ to 3 hours in slow oven (275°). After baking, let cakes stand 15 minutes before removing from pane. Cool thoroughly on racks without removing paper. When cool, remove paper. The 7th grade team broke even in games played the past week winning from Clermont 24-17 and losing to Westlane 17-14. The Bth grade bowed to Clermont 54-26 and to Westlane 27-16. ALLISON SQUARE DANCE NOTICE The Allison Square Dance Club will sponsor a square dance class for beginners, starting Tuesday, Dec. 4 and continuing for a series of eight lessons.**The class will meet 8 until 10 p.m. at the Moose Country Club, 338 Wicker Rd., off 37 South, near Glens Valley. MARCH OF DIMES County and city officials for the 1957 March of Dimes were announced today by Greyble L. McFarland, Jr., State Chairman for the January drive. McFarland named Donald Jameson, the president of the Equitable Securities Company for the post of Marion County March of Dimes Chairman. Mr. George Home, who recently retired as vice-president and general manager of Marsh and McLennan, Inc., was named chairman for the City of Indianapolis. The once-a-year drive in January, according to Mr. McFarland, raises funds to care for Indiana polio victims throughout the year. The money is used for patient care, research, and for iron lungs. “Two new cases of polio were reported in Marion County just this week and research to improve the Salk vaccine is going on all the time,” Mr. McFarland said. BROWNIE AND GIRL SCOUT NEWS Troop Birthday. Monday, November 26th Girl Scout Troop 494 had their fourth birthday party. First the girls had their ceremony in which they received their yearly membership cards. They were all served cake and punch. At the closing, Janet Campbell and Barbara McHenry played taps while the girls sang. We want to thank Mrs. Meyers, Fruth and Mrs. Chestnut who were on the committee and served refreshments. Brownie Troop 23 had their regular meeting Monday afternoon. They received their gold stars showing they had been Brownies for three years. The leader of the troop is Mrs. Ralph Thompson; co-leader, Mrs. Ralph Johnson and Mrs. Ralph Carey. President, Lana Jo Little, Publicity, Judy Riba. Brownie Troop 774, held their Investiture Ceremony on November 7th. The Brownies invested were: Lynn Anderson, Connie Cantwell, Deborah Faust, Libby Halbert, Gretchen Hamilton, Rosalyn Hamman, Sharon Irwin, Susan Irwin, Lynne Kurtz, Charlene Lewis, Diana Jean Lippard, Darlene Pickering, Pamela Richer, Linda Rozes, Beverly Sharp, Vicki Sherfick, Kathleen Smith, Linda Smith, Diana Kay Stewart, Terry VanAtta and Pamelia Vaugh. Mrs. Ned Richer, Leader, and Mrs. Fred Smith and Mrs. Fred Kurtz, co-leaders, invested the girls. The mothers were present and refreshments were served.
