“Eflergeneies Don’t Wait” October 1 to 8 has been set as this year’s “Emergencies Don’t Wait” Week a national campaign aimed at reducing accidents in the home, on the highway and at work. The program was instituted in 1949 as a public service feature by Johnson & Johnson. all possible safety hazards, improved and expanded safety training, greater knowledge of first aid treatment, and adequate supplies of first aid equipment in every home and car. The campaign has been endorsed by Gov. George N. Craig, Indianapolis Mayor Philip L.,Bayt, and Bloomington Mayor Thomas Lemon. Druggists will serve as headquarters for safety training information and will furnish the public with a compact first aid chart, at no cost. They have also prepared a list of the emergency equipment which should be kept in every home. This includes clinical thermometer, aromatic spirits of ammonia, cotton, gauze pads, adhesive tape, bandages, adhesive bandage, antiseptic, burn remedy, tweezers. According to National Safety Council figures, 93,000 Americans died in accidents in 1955 and one hundred times that many were injured. The two most dangerous spots are in motor vehicles (where most people are killed) and at home (where most people are injured). This year’s campaign will aim specificallly at making home a safer place to be. Navy divers can now explore the briny deep on a submarine sled which can be controlled with one hand. The diver can dive, surface, turn and roll, and camera j equipment can be lashed to the sled for underwater use by- the diver. Two aviation squadrons stationed at the Naval Air Station, Alameda, California, have been presented the coveted Aviation Safety Awards in recognition of their safety records during 1955. The “Sundowners” flew a total of 3,647 hours in Cougar jets, while the “Yellow Devils” logged an impressive 10,500 hours and 1,263 carrier landings in Skyraiders without accident.

A PERFECT PICNIC TREAT Tired of making mountains of sandwiches for picnic toting? Foil-wrap a chilled whole log of lamb, roasted yesterday, slip it into your portable refrigerator or insulated carrier-bag. Add sweet Spanish onions, firm sun-ripe tomatoes, a loaf of your favorite rye bread, and let each one design bis own sandwich treatright on the spot. Thin slices of tender, juicy, delicately flavored lamb sandwiched between buttered slices of rye bread, along with whisper-thin onion and tomato slices—ah, here is eating! You’ve never known the de-| light of cold roast lamb if you link it with the leftover slices from yesterday’s dinner roast Cooked the day before in the usual fashion—moderately slow oven (325*F) about 30 minutes to the pound or, more accurately, until an oven meat thermometer registers around 170*F, and allowed to cool a hit before stowing it away in the refrigerator, all the juices are retained in the uncut roast to add their fine flavor to that of the lamb. Leg of lamb or boned and rolled lamb shoulder may be used, by the way. When thoroughly chilled—several hours or overnight, slice the cold roast lamb ever-so-thin, and enjoy! For picnic, patio, porch—here is the perfect meat for sandwiching in good eating!
