DAY NURSERY (Continued rrom Page 1). Monday through Friday. Applications for admission may be made now by calling the Day Nursery on Lockerbie Street, ME. 7-4316. Staff for the new nursery consists of a caseworker, nurse, parttime pediatrician, and a group of trained teachers, headed by Mrs. Doris Foster, who has worked with pre-school children for many years. food planning for children, will be served each day. Old case records show that although Indianapolis has changed greatly in 56 years, the problems of parents are still much the same as when horse cars plodded up and down Washington Street. Financial troubles often make it necessary for both parents to work, and death, divorce or illness often leave one parent as sole support of the family. The Nursery’s policy of basing fee charges on family income has helped thousands of families stay together since the nursery was founded in 1900. The present sliding fee scale begins at $2.00 a week. The opening of the Day Nursery Association West Branch is the result of a survey made in the spring and approved by the Health and Welfare Council. The study revealed a definite need for day care of children, whose parents must work, in this highly industralized area, according to Mrs. Ferree.

net income, after bond retirement, of $477,284 as compared with $821,230 for the second quarter of 1955. This decrease in net income was principally the result of two factors: (1) a reduction in gas rates to all consumers effective March 1, and (2) a reduction in gas revenue of about 8% because of serving a higher B.T.U. gas during most of the period while gas appliances were being converted to use the 800 B.T.U. gas which was turned into the mains August 3. For the six months period ended June 30, earnings were $2,118,272 as against $2,015,508 in the first six months of 1955. The Utility retired $5T0,000 in revenue bonds June 1, 1956, reducing total revenue bonds outstanding to $6,989,000. On June 30, there were 145,852 gas users, an increase of 5,494 over a year ago.
