SCHOOL NEWS (Continued irom Page 1) Street and Winton Avenue for the 1956-57 school year. The present plans for kindergarten facilities in the new James A. Allison School are to use the large lobby and two entranceways to the building, along with two small office areas as kindergarten classrooms. With the unusually large number of kindergarten pupils living in that area (92 at present) it is believed their needs could best be served by using these facilities as a classroom and holding three sections of kindergarten there each day rather than having these children cross Crawfordsville Road to one of the other elementary schools. The plans above eliminate the safety hazard of very young children in kindergarten and grades one, two, three, and four crossing Crawfordsville Road in

going to and from school. Further construction is planned at the James A Allison School this year, thus promising more facilities for the 1957-58 school year. It is believed that the above distribution of classrooms provides the fairest possible assignment of pupils although it means in a few cases that children in one family will be assigned to different elementary schools. When the above distribution of children creates cases where two or more children in grades 1-4 within a family are assigned to different elementary schools, these parents may contact school officials. However, it appears that because of greater facilities at Elementary School No. 1, any reassignment of pupils will probably be to that school. In the study of the school population it was found that if a division was made at any designated street for all grades it would make an extremely large number in some classrooms with a very small enrollment in others. In the assignment of pupils listed below the boundaries for pupils who will be in grades five and six are the same as they were in 1955-56. Boundaries for pupils who will be in kindergarten, grades one-two, three, and four are somewhat different from last year because,of additional facilities at the James A. Allison School, which in turn created an unequal size of classes in the School No. 1 and School No. 2 areas and made it necessary to adjust these inequalities in class enrollments. Due to the great amount of current home construction in Speedway and the uncertainty at this time of the number of pupils who will enroll for the 1956-57 school year, it may be necessary to make some changes in pupil assignments after the first day of school. ST. CHRISTOPHER’S CATHOLIC CHURCH (Continued tram Page 1) thanks to Almighty God. He certainly took good care of us on the weather. Both the women and men general chairmen and various committee chairmen wish to thank each and everyone who worked so willingly. Thanks to the Speedway Flyer for all the wonderful publicity and all the other papers and radio stations. The Festival always brings the return of many old parishioners. It was good to see the George Arnolds, the Larry Dugans and the Komandos. Your prayers are requested for the repose of the soul of William Fogarty who died and was buried last week from the Cathedral. Tuesday, August 14th, is the Vigil of Assumption—a day of fast and abstinence. Wednesday, August 15, is the Feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary into Heaven—a holyday of obligation. Pray daily your rosary for peace in the world. Nora Bray
