Family Picnic From tots to teens, Mom and Gramp, everyone in the family is delighted with the prospect of a picnic. There’s a treat for all on the menu, too. It consists of ample hamburgers to be broiled Over charcoal, with tomatoes, onions and catsup for the buns. Canned pork and beans or baked beans are hard to beat on an out-side feast. Take them in the 8 ounce cans, open first, then heat, and serve in the cans. Add olives, cookies and lots of vitamin-rich fruit punch. Picnic Punch Special Fean (12 oz.) loganberry nectar 1 can (1 pt. 2 fl. oz.) pineapple juice. Chill juices thoroughly; combine and put into a thermos bot-

MAE WYNN Lovely Mae Wynn, above, will co-star-with Eli Mintz in the comedy hit, “Fifth Season,” second attraction at Avondale Playhouse, E. 116th St. at White River, Indianapolis, for six nights beginning Tuesday, July 3, at 8:30. Miss Wynn is the beautiful Hollywood starlet who gained wide recognition as the only woman in the cast of the movie, “The Caine Mutiny.” Mr. Mintz is familiar to audiences everywhere as “Uncle David” in the CBS network TV and radio program, “The Goldbergs.” “The Fifth Season,” which entertained Broadway for more than two years as the top comedy of 1953 and 1954, is the hilarious story of New York’s garment industry.

tie. Or, put cans of the juices in ice cooler and mix as needed. Note: Instead of pineapple juice, use orange-grapefruit juice blend, or cranberry juice' cock-' tail, if you wish. A Samnser Stearic That favorite twosome—frankfurter on a roll and a cold bottled soft drink—is once more in popular demand. Not that* it isn’t a year-round delight but, once “play ball” is sounded, it has top billing. Happily, this combination is equally popular served on a summer porch, at the picnic spot, or for a quick Saturday lunch. Bottled soft drinks in their see-in glass containers are clean, pure, and refreshing. For a quick cooler, put a few spoonfuls of crushed or finely chopped fresh fruits and a couple of ice cubes in a tall glass. Fill it up with a bottled soft drink; garnish with a fruit slice and enjoy a cool, satisfying summer drink at any time. Serve it with a frankfurter for a snack or a quick lunch. Frankfurter Swirls 8 frankfurter rolls 2 tablespoons prepared mustard 3 tablespoons butter or ‘ margarine 4 slices processed American cheese 8 frankfurters Start oven 400°F. Split the rolls lengthwise. Spread one side of split roll with butter and the other with mustard. Cut cheese slices in half and each half into 6 pieces. Make 3 diagonal slits in frankfurter, not quite through to bottom. Insert two pieces of cheese in each slit. Place frankfurters in buns. Wrap each frankfurter and bun loosely but securely in aluminum foil. Place on baking sheet and bake for 20 minutes. Makes 8 servings. Low-Calorie Snack Fits To A Tea! A pleasant way to shim the sun these sultry days is to take a tea-time-out from your chores, relaxing beside a tray of nibbly icebox cookies and tall, frosty glasses of iced tea.

Heat producing calories are kept to a minimum in these slimminded snacks, for both the cookies and the tea are sweetened with pure saccharin, more than 400 times sweeter than sugar but containing not a single weightadding calorie. To sweeten the tea, choose from several brands of liquid saccharin, or dissolve 24 ¥4-grain tablets in one-half cup of water to make your own syrup. A teaspoonful equals one teaspoon of sugar in sweetening power. You can freeze and keep rolls of these icebox cookies handy for munching in a matter of minutes. Ultras Cecis Political Tempers With the shouting and the tumult of the political conventions coming up, you’ll want plenty of refreshment to soothe television Canned Florida grapefruit juice is a favorite easy-to-serve thirstquencher and is good to have on hand for making refreshing ades and punches. Iced tea is a bracing drink and remember all coolers will look and taste better if you serve them with ice cubes made from fruit juices. Lame cubes are easy to make; simply combine juice of two Florida Persian limes with 3 cups of water, or use the limeade concentrate reconstituted. Pour into refrigerator ice cube tray and freeze. For other flavor combinations, freeze juice of No. 2 cans of Florida grapefruit juice, or blended orange and grapefruit juice. Pour beverage over regu-

YCD Campaign Near Two Millian Mark With $1,754,000 received in contributions, the YMCA Community Development campaign is in high gear. Every effort is being made to exceed $2,000,000 by July 4, Joseph O. Waymire, president of the organization stated in a letter addressed to the 2500 workers in the campaign this week. The total goal is $2,850,000. Included in - the amount received to date is $50,000 given by the Indianapolis Foundation and $300,800 contributed by special gifts and memorials. “Reports have been received from forty per cent of the accounts in the “A” Division,” Waymire said, “and fifty per cent of the “B” Division accounts. The “C” Division has just gotten started and have had two report meetings.” The branch organizations have reported on about thirty per cent of their prospects.

These results have created a feeling of optimism that the goal will be reached, if the workers will finish their calls. Nor is it asking too much of the Y.C.D. solicitors to bring the total past the $2,000,000 mark by the end of this month.” The Y.C.D. organization was incorporated early this year to raise funds for the expansion of the YM.C-A. to broaden its services to include all members of the family. The corporation includes 208 business, professional and industrial leaders. Emerson A. Welles, works manager of the International Harvester Company, is chairman of the board and Earl H. Schmidt, secretary-treasurer of Hamilton-Harris Company, is campaign chairman. Mr. Waymire is treasurer of Eli Lilly & Company.

The Playhense Mcved I am sure you will listen real closelyAs I tell you what happened to me No more am I sad and despondent For I’m happy and wholly carefree! Although I am only a Playhouse, I really wept tears every day; For you see when the little girls moved There was no one to come out and play. So l sat there neglected and lonely, z My door key was very sad, too, There was nothing, actually nothing That either of us really could do. But ... it seems I only imagined That I was forgotten, my dear, For one morning a moving van came And brought me quite safely out here! Yes, my dear, I am now with the children, And I know that they do love me still; For I’m now in the yard of their home And I love it . . . atop Cherry Hill! The little green dish pan and drainer And the sauce pans idle so long Will join with the little clean cabinet In singing a new welcome song! There’ll be hyacinths under my windows Where curtains will play in the breeze While Betsy will wash all the dishes And make ready for dozens of teas. The dolly will sleep in her cradle As the telephone jingles near by, And Billy will come at her bidding To sample her first cherry pie! Sister Nancy will do up the linens With Jerry polishing silver, you see, While happily waiting for service Is my dear little Playhouse Door Key! Anna E. Young
