Linde’s new laboratories are well on the way to completion. The modern building shown above will soon be the Center for many new projects in the fields of physics, chemistry, and metallurgy. The chemicals industry requires enormous quantities of calcium carbide for hundreds of consumer products. The containers shown here on a flatcar were designed by Lnraa people for shipment of calcium carttide by rail to customers. There are 11 containers in this carload and cadi container holds S tons of carbide.

The acetylene generator (left) is one of several types designed by Linos engineers. It provides a steady flow of acetylene in large amounts for industrial uses, in such generators, acetylene is produced by the controlled reaction of water and calcium carbide. In the Linde laboratories, synthetic crystals are “grown” from various oxides. This dose-up (right) shows a sapphire boule being formed in the intense heat of an oxy-hydrogen flame. Industry uses these crystals as bearings in delicate machinery. Jewelers use them in rings and other jewelry.

Link’s newest—and probably most dramatic—process Is Flame-Flating of metal parts. By thia method, fine particles of tungsten carbide are literally blasted from a “gun” onto the base metal. The coating thus formed is extremely hard, and highly resistant to beat, friction, and corrosion. The pio tare shows a Flame-Plating gun in action.

This development was followed by introduction of the Nu-Hue Color Coordinator system for painting contractors, designen and architects. In 1950 the Container Corporation of America joined with Mar-tin-Senour in presenting the coordination of Nu-Hue Custom Color formulas to the 943 colon in the Container Corporation Color Harmony Manual. This made it possible for architects, designers and painting and decorating contractors to select color combinations from the manual and order the tones chosen by simply listing order numbers from the back of the chips. Martin-Senour has pioneered in producing expanded palettes in wpod stains (169 colors), masonry finishes (144 eolors), shake paints (78 colors), and other paint products, and the Speedway Paint Store has Martin-Senour full line.
