ST. (OKTtPOI’S CATHOLIC CHURCH (Continued from page 1) SISOO for the sidewalks and curbs on Lyndhurst besides many other smaller items. However, she did say that her year began with quite a rich treasury from 1954 which Mrs. James Keating as president had not as yet turned over to Father toward the church debt and church expenses. In closing she said that she hoped that the ladies, and the husbands, would continue to work closely together with Jeanne Knight and the other 1956 officers for the good of all and for the good of St. Christopher. The/lew officers installed with Mrs. John Knight were Mrs. Jamec Houk and Mrs. Joseph Geiman, first and second vice presidents, Mrs. John Dunn, recording secretary, Mrs. Jacob Schaffer, treasurer, and Mrs. John Myers, corresponding secretary. V * , Salad bowls were the choice of the Merchandise winner last Sunday, and the winner was none other than Mary Ruth Toney of Clermont. A fourth grader of St. Christopher school was chosen to decide who that winner would be. Dressed attractively in light green corduroy pants and a green wool surcoat, Freddie Benedetto, son of Agnes and Leonard Benedetto of West Fifteenth Street, was that fourth grader. Women’s Retreat at Fatima Retreat House in Indianapolis is scheduled for the week-end February 3d, 4th, and sth. Mrs Carl Sheets and Mrs. William Meyer are co-chairmen of the Retreat. Plan now to make this retreat. Call either one of these ladies for answers to your questions. A retreat is even better for the soul than a vacation is for the body, and we all know how necessary we feel are our yearly vacations. Save your PAPERS. Why? Well Mrs. John Whitmore tells us that the PAPER SALE at St. Christopher is scheduled for 4 the last week-end in January. Crates will be placed in the school yard on Thursday, January 26th. The ladies assisted by some of the higher grade boys will pick up papers on Friday, the 27th, and the crates will be picked up Monday, the 30th. This will give everyone ample time to bring their papers down Xis they chose to do so. But a call to Sue Whitmore will bring a lady and boys to your house. If you can have them ready, fine, it will save time, and the boys will go down in the basement and get them. The Sisters and the boys are happy to help the ladies because after all the monies derived from these sales all go for the good of the church and the school. Keep your papers and magazinees and corrugated boxes knocked down, separate if possible as they sell for different rates. Representatives of the National Council of Catholic Women will be represented on the street corners downtown Saturday, January 14, in the interest of the March of Dimes. They have invited the ladies of St. Christopher to take part. They will stand on the corners of L. S. Ayres, Blocks and Wassons and one lady will serve for only an hour or so, but they would like to have all the parishes of Indianapolis represented . . . and no woman will have to stand alone on a corner at any time. If interested call Mrs. John Knight, our president, or Miss Summers, Melrose 4-1512, who is in charge of the project. Miss Summers can also tell you something about the English Foundation at 615 North Alabama Street, where the crutches are made, and other things. Open meeting of the National Council Indianapolis deanery will be at 8 o’clock next Tuesday evening on Noble Street in the community building. Mrs. James Houk, delegate from St. Christopher, would like to have a number of ladies join her, and she asks that anyone who can go please call her. Some of us went down last year and the meeting was not only very but very enlightening as to what the women are doing in other parishes. ' High Masses for the week.
