Trouser Bands Get Sticky If you are the unfortunate owner of a pair of trousers where the inner waistband gripper becomes soft and tacky, there isn’t much you can do about it at the moment! The National Institute of Drycleaning in Silver Spring, Maryland, tells us this is a new problem that has developed recently. Sometimes this condition occurs just from wear alone, before cleaning. In other cases, it develops sometime after the garment is cleaned. Gripper bands vary in construction. Many of them are made by chainstitching several rows of elasticized thread to a cotton or rayon band. This elasticized

thread is made of neoprene and latex. Mr. Clay Hardin, Chief Analyst of NlD’s Garment Analysis Department, has examined a large number of garments that have shown various degrees of deterioration. It has been determined that drycleaning solvent alone does not cause this tacky condition. Manufacturing sources say that in more than 50 million yards of these waistbands produced and sold in one year, only a small percentage of this deterioration has been reported to them. Their research departments are investigating this problem but to date have found no answer. The only solution we can offer at the moment is to go to the notions department of your favorite retail store and purchase new gripper banding to replace the old! See you at the PTA Card Party, January 26. 1956

ST. CHRISTOPHER’S CATHOLIC CHURCH (Continued from page 1) are in the making for the showing of a very interesting Red Cross film. Hostesses for the evening- are the retiring officers and the incoming officers, namely Mesdames Audrey Zisha, Louise Grothe, Helen Hesselgrave, Carolyn Such, Carolyn Novajosky, Rita Cross, Jeanne Knight, Helen Houk, Mary Geiman, Billie Dunn, Maxine Schaffer and Mary Myers. Every lady who is a member of St. Christopher church and every lady whose husband is a member of St. Christopher church is invited to this meeting. Next Friday is First Friday. Fourth grade mothers will serve the First Friday breakfast to the children after the eight o’clock High Mass. The lucky folks at the Alverna Retreat House in a project for their new buildings on Christmas eve were Margaret Masse of 510 North Emerson, George Gerta of 6409 Central, Holy Name of St. Catheririe, Herman Hagner of 2316 Parker, Leo Bauman, 41 West Troy and Al Probst of Effingham, Illinois. Betty and Bill Meyer visited with their daughter Elizabeth, Sister Joseph Aloyse of the Providence Order, at Ft. Wayne Monday. She is teaching one of the first grades at St. Jude. The school has two first grades of sixty pupils each. Miss Helen Dugan, whose name in the Order we are sorry we do not know, of St. Anthony parish is teaching the other first grade. Elizabeth and Helen were novitiates together at St. Marys of the Woods in Terre Haute. Mrs. Dugan accompanied the Meyers. We hestitate to mention the names of boys and girls home for the holidays, because we’ll miss some, but we did see Bill Meyer, a Junior at Notre Dame, Mary Sue Sheets of St. Mary of Notre Dame, and Mary Cohen who is teaching piano at Sacred Heart, a college for women, at Grand Cotea, Louisiana. In the new year, let us be less critical of the faults of others and more critical of our ojvn. A Happy New Year. Pray daily your Rosary for peace in the world. Nora Bray
