ST. CHRISTOPHER’S CATHOLIC CHURCH (Continued from page 1) and Holydays are incorrect, due to a last minute change in the fall. A card showing the time at which the Masses are said in St. Christopher church may be picked up from a table in the hall. Mary Qualters of 239 North Mount Street was the Merchandise Club winner last Sunday, tattle three year old Julianne Smith drew out the winning name. Julianne was wearing a biege colored matching tweed coat and hat and she made a mighty sweet picture as her eyes danced at the thrill of putting her little hand in the bag and drawing out the winner. Juilanne is the daughter of Joseph P. and Nancy Smith and lives at 1108 Allison Street. Joeie Geiman, the eight year old son of Joe and Mary Geiman went to St. Vincent Wednesday for a tonsillectomy operation. The St. Christopher Civics Club of St. Christopher school received its official charter from the Commission on American Citizenship in Washington, D.C. this week. The charter formally recognizes affiliation of the local unit with the national organization headquartered at The Catholic University of America. Pupils of the 7th and Bth grades comprise the local Club membership. The officers of the newly organized Club are: Stephen Coppock, president; Shirley Haney, vice-president; Dorothy Toney, recording secretary; Bob Nester, corresponding secretary; and Bob Lesman, sergeant-at-arms. Mike Martich is treasurer. St. Christopher Civics Club is one of the thousands of Catholic Civics Clubs chartered in the United States for the express purpose of “fostering training for good citizenship.” Through monthly projects and study of articles featured in the national Catholic weekly for students of the upper elementary grades, The Young Catholic Messenger, these young citizens learn in principles of justice and charity. This year the program of study and action will develop the general theme, “Good Citizens Work Together.” As a special project the 7th and Bth grades have been working together for the Red Cross. The boys made checker boards while the girls shared in the activity in creative table favors, tray mats and table centerpieces. These will be sent to the Red Cross Center to be delivered to the Sisters of the Poor for Christmas decorations. Mrs. Helen Freund, chairman of the Pecan Sale, and her committee want to thank everyone who purchased pecans. The ladies sold 700 pounds of nuts. They regret that they ran out so soon, thereby causing disappointments. If you’re wondering what that small gift could be either for Christmas or a shower, why not St. Christopher Cook Book II? The ladies still have books on sale, and while they have not been pushed too much the sale of these books has been moving right along. Mrs. Joseph Rosner is chairman of Sales and she may be reached by calling BElmont 7913. Calls made to Mrs. Oscar Bender, BElmont 4296, Mrs. Walter Freund, BElmont 2384, Mrs. Frank Medenwald, BElmont 1015, or Nora Bray, BElmont 0586, we are sure would get prompt delivery. The books would make very attractive Christmas gifts in their red and white plastic covers. They sell for $1.25 and come in a mailing envelope. Next week we observe Ember Week . . . Wednesday, Friday and Saturday being ember days, days of fasting and Wednesday and Saturday partial abstinence. On Monday, December 12th, the feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe is celebrated . . . Our Lady of Guadalupe, the mother of all Mexico.
