UNION CARBIDE NEWS James H. Ware has been named Manager of Production and Engineering— Chemicals and Plastics, Union Carbide International Company, a Division of Union Carbide and Carbon Corporation, according to an announcement by Alex. MacKenzie, President of Union Carbide International. Mr. Ware will direct the production, engineering, development, and construction activities in the overseas chemicals and plastics field of Union Carbide International Company, which handles export sales and overseas production operations. Mr. Ware has been with Union Carbide since 1934 when he became associated with Carbide and Carbon Chemicals Company, at Whiting, Indiana, after graduating from Purdue University with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He has worked on numerous design and construction projects relating to the various units of the Company. From 1942 to 1950, Mr. Wade held supervisory positions for gas process engineering and development projects relating to the Company’s plants at South Charleston, West Virginia, and Texas City, Texas. In 1950, he was appointed Staff Assistant to the Vice-President at Engineering of Carbide and Carbon Chemicals Company with headquarters in New York. In this capacity he served as Project Manager in charge of the design and construction of the Seadrift, Texas, plant and related facilities. The Seadrift plant was placed in initial operation the later part of 1954 and is a large producer of polyethylene plastic and organic chemicals. Sheldon V. Clarke has been appointed Manager of General Purchasing Department of Union Carbide and Carbon Corporation, it was announced by Morse G. Dial, President. He succeeds Mr. H. V. Huffard who is retiring after forty years of service with the Corporation. Mr. Clarite, a graduate of Lehigh University, first joined the Union Carbide organisation in 1920. He served as construction engineer in the Construction and Design Department of Linde Air Products Company and later held the same portion in Carbide and Carbon Chemicals Company. In 1929 he left Union Carbide and joined the Bradstreet Company, becoming a Vice-President. Mr s Clarke returned to Union Canbide in 1934 as Purchasing Agent, In 1946 he was appointed Assistant Manager of Purchases.
