By receiving Holy Communion tomorrow morning, many will show their Love to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Mrs. Marguerite Ellison, sth grade room mother, will be in charge of the First Friday breakfast downstairs after the Mass. Mrs. Pauline Nester will assist her. Beginning Sunday, six Masses will be celebrated at St. Christopher. Time . . . 67 —B—9,8—9, a High Mass, 10:30 and 11:30. On Holy Days, Masses will be at 6—7:30 and 9 in the morning and at 7 and 8 in the evening. Week Days, the Mass will be at 6:30 unless otherwise announced. Confessions at St. Christopher are heard on Saturdays from 4:00 to 6:00 and from 7:30 to 9:00. They are also heard on Thursdays before First Fridays, and on the Vigils of Holy Days. Confessions and Communions each week day from 6 to 8 a.m. Rev. L. A. Lindemann, M.A., 5.T.8., pastor, will be assisted by Rev. William Stineman, M.A. of Marian College and Rev. Joseph Brokhage, S.T.D., of Cathedral on Sundays. After all the Masses on next Sunday morning, the Junior CYO will offer baked goods for sale. TEENETTES Hi, gang. Here I am again back with the weekly news. Last week I said something about our pledge and in this article I have the news. Because of the pledging of Karen Brown, we didn’t have our regular meeting after school. At 5:30 at Mary Alice Stierwalt’s we got under way. We first ate and following that we had the pledging of Karen. Karen, the club is very happy that you are in as a pledge. The club wishes to thank Judy Burgin for doing the honors. After the pledging we played a few games and then about 11:30 we played a few records. Afterwards we had some cokes and hamburgers. We went home about 12:45. SPEEDWAY CRAFT CLUB The ladies who helped the Craft Club put on its 1955 Fish Fry will be honored at a dinner Monday night, October 10 at 6:30 pjn. at the Temple. The ladies’ husbands are welcome to attend but a nominal fee of $1 will be charged for the men. The members of the Craft Club will prepare and serve the dinner. Members of the Craft are requested to lend a hand on the serving line.

Thank Yau!!! A very sincere thank you to everyone who helped make the PTA Paper Sale a big success despite the weather. Due to the rain, a few bundles of paper were missed by the drivers. If your paper was not picked up, please accept our apology. To the drivers and the gals who leaded and unloaded papers in the rain, an extra word of appreciation. It certainly can be said that RAIN will never stop a PTA Paper Sale! Thanks also to Mary Ann Schein and her committee for the refreshments. SPEEDWAY LITTLE LEAGUE FOOTBALL Games are being arranged with Tabernacle, Meridian Methodist, Ben Davis, and others. One hundred jerseys have been ordered so that the teams may be uniformed. Plans for presenting the teams to the people of Speedway are beiing formulated. Watch the Flyer for further announcements concerning these plans. COMMUNION BREAKFAST Four hundred women are expected to gather in the Skyline Terrace of the Hotel Severin on Sunday, October 16, for the second bi-annual group Communion and breakfast of Our Lady of Fatima Retreat House. The breakfast is scheduled immediately after 9 o’clock Mass in St. John’s Catholic Church, Capitol and Georgia Streets. Guest speaker for this year’s breakfast is the Rev. John Ratchford, pastor of St. Anselm Church, Kampsville, 111. Reservations may be made by sending $2.00 to Our Lady of Fatima Retreat House, 111 W. For more than six years she has been industrial nurse at the Stark Wetzel & Company Indianapolis, Indiana. She is a Director of the Mid-Indiana Industrial Nurses Association.

Wanted The Speedway Police Department is accepting applications for replacement for Paul Smith who is resigning October 15th. Requirements are: age 21 to 35 years, good health, preferably Speedway resident, willingness to work nights and every-other week-end and be able to purchase initial uniform. The average work week is 45 to 50 hours. Starting pay is $300.00 per month which is increased to $325.00 the second year, with one week vacation the first year and two weeks thereafter. Make applications to the Speedway Police Department office, at the Town Hall. We are sorry to have Paul leave us. He has 'been with the department for about a year and a half and helped us out previously at race time. Paul, with his wife, is going to California. Julia Mann gave a very interesting paper on the “Life of Clara Barton.” The Oct, 6th meeting will be at the home of Harriett Van Kirk, 6363 Forest View Dr. This is an important meeting as we will be given a chance to vote on our finance project at this meeting. The installing officer was Mrs. Ruth Gates, Past President of the 11th District of the Indiana American Legion Auxiliary. On Friday, October 7, at 7:30 p.m. the School Board will open bids for the construction of the first unit of the James A. Allison Elementary School to be built at 22nd and Allison Street. The first unit will include eight classrooms. It is planned to add six classrooms and an all-purpose room when additional funds become available. The school will eventually house grades kindergarten through six. The eight rooms for which bids will be received Friday night should be completed in plenty of time for the opening of school next fall. Assignment of pupils to the school will' be made next summer. In the convention for nomination of candidates for President and Vice-President of the Student Council, Fred Scott and Jim Wood were nominated for President and Vice-President respectively on the Sparks ticket and Bob Templin and Jim McMahon were nominated on the Plugs (Continued on page 3)

There are three Interest Groups: “Indian Americans—Our Concern?” led by Miss Louise Browning of the U.CM.S.; “Facing The Liquor Issue” led by Cy Rowell of Butler University; and “Dare We Follow Jesus” led by Robert Elliott, Director, University Park Christian Church. By the way, Bob will be our Vesper speaker also. The Recreation Committee, along with the Leonards have planned “The Thing” for Saturday afternoon. What ds it? Come and find out. “Song of the Shining Mountain” is our film Saturday evening, which will precede our Consecration Service. Lights out follow around 11:00 pm. (?) Speedway’s response to this sale last year was excellent and we hope we can count on you for re-orders. We’ve been organized since the last school year, but unfortunately our publicity never seemed to reach the news editor. Know anything about that, Patti? Personals Dave Newton, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Newton, El Cajon Valley, California (former residents of Speedway), has been elected Senior Class President at Grossmont High School. He is a member oi the student government, Cadet Corps and the Key Club. Active in the drama department, he has appeared in plays and has emceeded various shows. He hopes to enter radio work following graduation and, is working on a teenage disc jockey program which he hopes to have on radio. Mr. and Mrs. Ted Siefers have returned from a trip through the Blue Ridge Mountains. They visited friends in Raleigh, North Carolina. Two of our Service Boys have birthdays this month.
