Quarter Of A Century Without A Disabling Injury 1 Speedway Laboratories, Linde Air Products, A Division of Union Carbide and Carbon Corporation, take pleasure in announcing 'twenty-five years representing 5,899,715 man hours of operation without a disabling accident from December 31, 1929, to December 31, 1954. In recognition of this excellent record by the employees of the Laboratories, the National Safety Council has given an Award of Honor plaque to be displayed prominently in the entrance lobby of the Laboratory. Receipt of this award has not meant a relaxation on the part of employees or employers in regards to safety at work or at home. In continuance of the spirit of the award there have been no lost time accidents to date.
PARTY FOR PROSPECTIVE COEDS “Butler University invites ...” all prospective college coeds to a party according to an announcew merlin the mail to recent high school graduates throughout the state. The college preview night, to be held in John W. Atherton Center at 7:30 Wednesday (Aug. <24), will help acquaint the newcomers with campus customs, fashions and activities. A program entitled “It’s Collegiate” will feature a back-to-school fashion show by the William H. Block Co. and a background of music by Tom Picket and “The Blue Notes,” “The Theta Combo” and “The Delt Trio.” The party is sponsored as a service of the Student Information Office in cooperation with the coed counselors of the Association of Women Students. Co-chairmen for the event are Nancy Fleming, 3521 Winthrop, and Mary Carolyn Swartz, 5531 N. Delaware. Other coed counselors heading committees are Ann Fleming, New Castle, decorations; Paula Silberman, 2402 Park, invitations; Ann Thomas, 131 E. 36th, name tags; Julie Bierce, 3113 N. Union Carbide News New York, N. Y., August 10, 1955—The appointment of E. J. Fox as Assistant Works Manager of Carbide and Carbon Chemicals Company, a Division of Union Carbide and Carbon Corporation, was announced today by H. D. Kinsey, Vice-President of Carbide and Carbon Chemicals Company. Mr. Fox has been with the Corporation since 1930, when he joined Carbide and Carbon Chemicals Company, at South Charleston, as a Production Engineer. He subsequently moved to Department Head and then Chemical Area Supervisor. Later he became Assistant Plant Superintendent, at Texas City, and Superintendent of the butadiene plant operated for Rubber Reserve at Louisville, Kentucky. In 1946, he returned to his former position in Texas City and became Plant Superintendent in 1952. Mr. Fox was born in Bridgeport, Ohio. He attended West Virginia University and received the degree of Bachelor of Science, Chemical Engineering, in 1930.
UNION CARBIDE TO EXPAND URAVAN URANIUM MILL The uranium processing mill of Union Carbide and Carbon Corporation at Uravan, Colorado, already one of the largest on the Colorado Plateau, is undergoing a further large expansion in capacity, with new construction already in progress, according to Kenneth Rush, President of the Corporation’s newly formed atomic energy Division, Union Carbide Nuclear Company. The expansion plans were announced following the singing of a contract with the Atomic Energy Commission. The additional mill capacity at Uravan is expected to be completed early in the fall of 1956. Engineering work is already well under way, and construction contracts are currently being placed. Pending completion of the new facilities, the present plant will continue to be operated at full capacity; and, as the new facilities are installed, production of uranium wall be progressively increased.
