That’s the advice offered by If you're planning a vacation, here are safety rules to keep in mind: 1. Plan your trip so you can drive leisurely and enjoy it. Don’t set such a tight schedule that you’ll wear yourself out to meet it. 2. Allow yourself time for rest and refreshment stops on the way. Take periodic breaks from driving. 3. Don’t try to view scenery on the move. When you reach a particular scenic view, pull entirely off the road, get out of the car, and enjoy it. 4. If you plan an overnight stop, choose your stopping place before night falls. Don’t extend your driving just because there is a little light left. The twilight hours are among the most dangerous for driving. 5. Be prepared for emelgencies. If a flat tire or motor trouble occurs, get your car ENTIRELY off the highway. Carry warning flags and flares to warn oncoming traffic. 6. If you are driving at night dhd feel yourself getting sleepy, pull off the road, get out of the car and walk around to wake yourself up. Stop for a cup of coffee at roadside stands. If your drowsy feeling continues, pull well off the highway, and take a nap. You may lose a few brief hours, but it’s better than losing your life.

MY FAVORITE RECIPE v ;fl by Laona Asm Glampitt Did you watch the Fireside Theatre on TV Tuesday evening and see the commercial for Grieco? They showed a cherry cobbler made in ap oblong pan and used strips of dough for the white stripes of our flag and in the upper left-hand corner a star cut out of dough. It is a novel idea for a Fourth of July dessert. Here is another dessert that can be made several days ahead. I call it Sherbet Cake. Can be used for shortcake or iced and. eaten with ice cream or fruits. It is an easy one-bowl method cake, rich and moist and stays fresh several days. Reminds me of the old-fashioned pound cake we bought when I was a girl. 2% cups sifted cake flour 1% cups sugar 2 tsp. baking powder Ift tsp. salt 1 cup shortening (Crisco or Spry) % cup milk Ift tsp. vanilla 3 eggs Sift flour, sugar, baking powder, salt into mixing bowl. Add shortening, milk, vanilla and unbeaten eggs. I turn on the beater and beat while I prepare pan. Occasionally I scrape sides and bottom of bowl. Do not underbeat. Bake in greased tube pan or oblong pan at 375 degrees for about 55 minutes. Grated lemon rind, about 1 tsp., can be added if desired. State Trees The pine tree, familiar on early flags and coins of New .England, dominates the state seal of Vermont, but the hard maple is the generally recognized state tree. Nebraska officially adopted the name of Tree Planters State in 1895, but has yet to make the übiquitous cottonwood, or any other, its legally chosen tree.
