BENEFIT C ARB PARTY Did you ever hear of killing three birds with one stone? That’s what the local members of the American Association of Psychiatric Social Workers hope to do, according to Miss Hazle Corrigan, who is chairman of the Association’s scholarship committee. Her group is sponsoring a benefit card party in the William H. Block Company Auditorium from 2:00 to 5:00 Saturday afternoon, March 26.

Miss Corrigan explained that it will be a three-way benefit. The public who attend will enjoy the recreation and at the same time they will be making a contribution to a scholarship fund for social work students at the Indiana University Division of Social Service in Indianapolis. Besides this, the sponsors are doing their bit to help overcame the critical shortage of social workers. Scholarships are needed more than ever now, because the rise in costs of living and tuition over the past five years has made itself felt by a drop in the number of new students entering the Indiana social work school, the same as it is being felt in most of the 57 other schools of social work throughout the country. This has happened at a time when social agencies are crying for professionally educated social workers to cope with the rising tide of social problems that lead to juvenile delinquency, crime, proverty, broken homes, physical and mental illness. The American Association of Psychiatric Social Workers sponsoring the benefit is a professional organization of graduate social workers who are employed in psychiatric hospitals and clinics. Their project is one of several which are being planned by five different groups of social workers in Marion County. These efforts are the first steps in a new campaign to raise money for scholarships. “The Clothesline Tells A Story” All winter long the clotheslines swing Yet first to tell the world—lt’s spring Are now adorned in colors gay And with the breezes swing and sway— The sun is shining, birds are singing To welcome spring sweet songs are ringing Forsythia, chic in sunny yellow The Robin chirps, a happy fellow. The Crocus raised each dainty head Old Winters coverlet will shed. But to the clothesline give the glory It was first to tell the story. Tn snowy white or dainty hues— The clothesline first to tell the news. By Mary R. White 854 N. Sherman Dr.
