Speedway Elementary School No. 2, which was recently inspected by the Indiana Department of Public Instruction, has been awarded a First Class Commission. To obtain this classification a school must meet a number of standards the major ones being a highly trained faculty, good instructional program, a large amount of library books and supplementary materials, and an adequate building. In the Inspection Division report to the State Board of Education, Elementary School No. 2 was commended for able and efficient administration and teaching staff, reading program, abundant instructional supplies and equipment, well-lighted and attractively decorated classrooms, good visual education program, friendly pupil-teacher relationships, and good custodial service. With the commissioning of Elementary School No. 2, all schools in Speedway now have a First Class Commission. Elementary School No. 1 and the High School have had a first class commission for some time.

On Friday, February 4, members of the 11th Grade American History classes and 12th Grade Government classes will visit the Indiana General Assembly. They will be under the supervision of Mr. Dale Weller, History and Government teacher. The 7th and Bth grade teams won their games at Edgewood last Wednesday night,, the 7th grade 38-30, and the Bth grade 30-26. The Speedway varsity made an excellent showing in the Marion County Tourney last week-end winning from Decatur Central 4742 in a hard-fought game and almost upsetting a favored Soutlfport team in the semi-finals. Southport defeated Speedway 4843, but with 18 seconds to go the score was 45-43. Speedway had led most of the game. Southport won the tourney by defeating Ben Davis in the final game.
