Miami Beach hotel (tips for the doormen, bell boys, parking lot attendants and the like . . . but not counting tips for meals). The same press agent said he knows for a fact that the doorman at one hotel pays $7,500 a year (cash in advance) for his door concession and that the door of another plushier hotel goes for $25,000 a year. The top price he has heard being paid for a doorman’s concession in Miami Beach is $35,000 a year. A sign at the entrance of one hote l parking lot says: ‘Stop! A First Aid drill was the order of the day for the brand new First Aid Highway Station in Perry Township. Fire Chief Chris W. Resner, 5702 Bluff Road, shows how to bandage a head wound. His “victim” is William G. Koehrn, 1556 Dudley. Both men are members of the Perry Township Fire Department which has been designated as a Red Cross First Aid Station.
HEAD. ITS THE LITTLE THINGS THAT COUNT. • • • SEE THROUGH THIS? . . . One more reason why we should drive with care is that today’s car contains 25 per cent more glass than its 1949 counterpart. And although it’s safety glass, it will still jab. * * * LIKED THIS ONE ... Mr. and Mrs. Churchill were walking down the street when they passed a member of the Russian Embassy named Rudolph. Mrs. Churchill said to him when passing, “Good morning, it looks like rain.” The- Russian replied, “It does not look like rain and furthermore, it’s not going to rain.” After they had passed, Mr. Churchill said, “No use arguing with him, for, after all, Rudolph, the Red, Knows Rain, Dear.” • ♦ • HEART MEMORIALS : . . More and more Hoosiers each month are finding deep satisfaction in making memorial donations to their Heart Foundation. As I have pointed out before, all of this money goes directly into heart research right here in Indiana. If you were to send a donation today ... it might be used to help any of four different research investigators at Indiana University School of Medicine ... or it might be used to help heart research at Purdue. Regardless where it winds up—regardless what particular project your money supports, let me tell you the money is well spent. I’ve seen the Indiana Heart Foundation’s research committee in action. And say, they watch every dollar like a hawk. Nothing passes unless the research is 100 , per cent okayed by all of the doctors on this committee. So if you want to honor the memory of a relative or friend who died from heart disease, send your donation to Indiana Heart Foundation, 615 N. Alabama St., Indianapolis 4. Acknowledgment will be sent to the family of the person honored. Name and pur-

be held in confidence. . • * GOVERNMENT PAMPHLETS . . . You have seen those notices about government pamphlets which sell for two bits. They cover a multitude of subjects. Some seem sensible. Others ridiculous. Anyway, I heard about a man who mailed his quarter to the Government Printing Office and requested a certain pamphlet. A couple of weeks passed before he got a reply. But when it arrived, it was “something.” The original letter was returned with a notation “E” in red pencil. Stapled to the letter was a printed form explaining notations O, E, A, R, C and S. Notation E “indicates publication is permanently out of stock.” Vigorous shaking of the envelope failed to produce the quarter, BUT there were enclosed five coupons each “worth
