Oct. 29—Football (Pike Township), here, 7:30 p.m. Nov. s—Junior Play. Elementary School No. 1 held a Green Flag raising ceremony Tuesday morning September 21. Larry Thomas played the National Anthem as the colors were raised after which Mr. Moore led the students in Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag. Mr. Glen Collins asked the children for cooperation to keep the Green Flag flying this year. Elementary School No. 2 held a similar program on Monday. Each star on the Green Flag signifies no accidents for a month. The membership drive for the Children’s Museum will begin this week September 29-October 6. Speedway Schools have supported this effort for several years. The Museum has available several exhibits which are brought to our schools by the P.T.A. for viewing in our display cases.
Student Council representatives elected by the various classes and clubs for the 1954-55 school year are: 7th Grade, Ronald Cotton, Richard Burdge, and Thomas McPhee; Bth Grade, Max Johnson, Nina Clevinger and Don n a Wright; 9th Grade, Nancy Lewis and Glenn Higgins; 10th Grade, Glenda Harlan, Judy Wood and Ann Brockman; 11th Grade, Robert Kryter and Fred Scott; 12th Grade, Donna Burton and Larry Thomas; Debate Club, Linda Lookabaugh; Dramatics Club, Ann Burton; FBLA Club, Marilyn Woodward; FHA Club, Sandra Messick; Hi-Y Club, Dean Smith; Latin Club, Amy Foley. The varsity football team defeated Brownsburg 31-0 at Speedway last Friday night. This win gives the Spark Plugs a 2 won, 1 lost record in the Mid-State Conference. The reserve team won from Decatur Central by a score of 12-0 Monday night.
THANKS TO ALL Due to interests that require more of my personal time and attention it is with great reluctance I find it necessary to resign as Cub Master of Cub Scout Pack No. 66 in Speedway City. I wish to thank all the people, and firms for their fine cooperation with the pack and myself the year and a half I have been Cub Master. “Y” INDIAN GUIDES The Y Indian Guides Longhouse of the Westside will stage a Pow Wow at the Speedway Swimming Pool picnic ground on Sunday, Oct. 3 from 4 to 6 pan. to which all dads and sons of the Westside communities are invited. Ray Griffin, acting Chief of the Westside Longhouse will preside at the Pow Wow. The Kickapoo, Mohican, Wea, Mohawk and Cherokee tribes will display handicraft the dads and boys have made during the year. The Wea tribe will conduct some games and stunts between fathers and sons. After the ceremonies of the Longhouse, the fathers and sons will have a wiener roast, provided by each dad. All dads and sons are invited to observe the Y Indian Guides, a father and son program, in action. This National program of the YMCA, has as its purpose, the fastening of companionship of father and son. Ages of boys entering this program are from 6 to 9 and men interested in making their son a pal should attend the Pow Wow bring wieners, buns and drink. In case of rain the Pow Wow. will be postponed. Fathers or mothers desiring further information regarding the Y Indian Guides may secure a folder explaining the program by calling Be. 9421.
MISS DRINK WATER NEW AT BUTLER Miss Barbara L. Drinkwater, a member of the Nebraska University faculty for the past two years, has been appointed an instructor in woman’s physical education at Butler Univarsity. Miss Drinkwater is a graduate of the New Jersey College for Women and of the Women’s College of the University of North Carolina. She has taught in the public schools and colleges of New Jersey, North Carolina, and Nebraska. Miss Drinkwater has been a summer eamp counselor and director in Maine, and has been recognized nationally as a sports official in several women's activities.
GIRL SCOUT NEWS Troop No. 385 went to camp Dellwood Friday after school and came home Saturday afternoon. The following girls hiked to camp; Susie Rollins, Judy Butler, Donna Urbancic, Eletta Simoton, Oliva Barsoda, Johneva Crane, Julie Cook, Patty Caiman, Sue Thompson, Patty Scyphers, Sandra Sharp, Kathy McGill. Thanks to our leaders, Mrs. Hilda Sharp, Mrs. Phyllis Rubancic, and licensed campers, Mrs. Judy Scyphers, Mrs. Ruth Thompson, for such a good time.
