SPEEDWAY RECREATION CLUB
I \\ I
The Speedway Recreation Club had entries in the City Swim Meet held at Broad Ripple Park Pool Saturday, September 4th. We didn’t bring home any ribbons or trophies, but we did gain in knowledge of swim meets. Mrs. Manifold was very proud of every one of them and happy to say they tried. We came home a most excited group when our relay team placed fifth among twelve teams. They were to be in the finals on Sunday, but one boy on the team had to go to Chicago, so there went our chances for our first ribbon. The boys on the relay team were John Sawyers, Dave Owen, Bob Burton, and Dick Fleser. Others entered id their respective age groups were as follows: George Poor, 50 meter free style; Alan Somers, 50 meter breast stroke; Bob Manifold, 50 meter free style and 50 meter back stroke; Diane DouglasAo meter free style and 50 meter breast stroke. Diane did come in first in her heat- of the breast stroke. Considering no coaching or training we think they did real well in the largest City Swim Meet ever held of 682 entries.
