Ladies’ Column K >LDED SALMON SALAD FOR SUMMER This handsome Molded Salmon Salad is an appetizing entree for a hot summer day. For a real salmon mousse, a one-pound can of salmon is combined with heavy cream in the gelatine mixture. Cream also goes into the elegant Cucumber Cream Dressing. For purposes of economy or calorie cutting, however, evaporated milk does very well in the salmon mold. For a luncheon foursome, put the mixture into individual molds. For buffet supper, double the recipe and serve on a fancy platter, as shown in the photo. Canned salmon is ready to use the instant you open the can. Every bit is edible —there is no waste. And it’s been brought from the sea direct to you, sealed before caking and cooked in a way that c<m’t be matched at home. Molded Salmon Salad 1 envelope unflavored gelatine % cup cold water cup vinegar 1 tablespoon sugar % teaspoon salt 1 tablespoon prepared mustard 1 1-pound can salmon 1 cup finely diced celery % cup heavy cream, whipped or % cup icy cold evaporated milk, whipped Soften gelatine in cold water and vinegar. Motorists Urged To Drive Carefully

Now that the annual school vacation has begun, motorists are warned to more carefully than ever to avoid injuring a child who might run into the path of their car. Our city has provided excellent supervised playgrounds for the children add young people of this community, with ample facilities for group or individual play. There is no need, ever, for any child to play in the streets in our community, and it is the responsibility of every parent to see to-it that his or her children do not use the streets as playgrounds. Safety education is now a

definite part of the school curriculum, from kindergarten through high school. Safety rules are simple and easy to learn. They are especially easy to follow in a community such as ours, where children are given every possible advantage of supervised play. If safety and caution and good common sense are used by young and old, this can be a happy summer for all. Just a few of the group’s with organized summer programs are: City Parks, Y.M. and Y.W.C.A’s, Camp Fire Girls, Girl and Boy Scouts, Little League Baseball, Churches, Red Cross and Public Schools. Support their plans.

Gradually add a No. 2 can orange juice, beating. Add % teaspoon almond extract and a few drops red coloring. Chill. Makes 3 cups. PRESERVE THAT NEW LOOK IN SUMMER COTTONS High styled cotton dresses, suits, coats, and evening dresses deserve and need the finest care! Because fashion is now built into our cotton garments, we must take steps to preserve it—cottons are no longer meant to be routed to the wash basin in the bathroom or relegated to the basement for laundering. They require professional cleaning service. Cotton is a versatile fabric, and designers have run the gamut of color, texture, finish, and design this season. You may have noticed that stores and shops are flooded with high polished cottons, with colors gay and lustrous. Be sure to give consideration to garment design when you select a high polish cotton for summer wear, because they can be very warm on hot, humid days. The new “patent leather prints” are a designer’s delight. Some of these are imported; others are American made. The design is usually black and lustrous like patent leather. Color may be added. The designs may dull slightly with wear and cleaning, but not sufficiently to make you unhappy. Straw fabrics and decorative trims of straws are the new pacesetters. The fabrics may be made of raffia—which is high strength paper made to look like straw. The straw effect is achieved in cotton fabrics by using rough textured yarns in irregular weaves, or by a resin treatment.
